Title: Matching black frame paint
Post by: Jagged on August 07, 2009, 01:12:34 AM
Hey i've fabricated a few brackets (for the stebel nautilus, motoscope mini and a custom headlight) and i want to paint them to come reasonably close to match the black frame/rim paint from the 06, i'm assuming the frame paint hasnt changed in the past couple years and was wondering if anybody knows of a brand/type of paint that will work i've tried a few and wasnt too pleased with the results

if i find something that is good id like to also do my lower triple and lower forks

thanks

It's tough to match the frame as I believe it is powdercoated black. But to approximate the finish you can use this stuff.

Hammer finished is somewhat close.

I'm not sure exactly what the black looks like, since my frame is silver, but how are you planning on painting it? If you have a compressor and a paint gun then you should be ok finding something. If you're just doing it by hand like I usually do, your best options are probably some brushed on rustoleum, or some of the spray on black truck bed liner, pretty much just for durabilities sake. Any normal spray paint you use is going to get worn off, even just from the throttle cables and whatever else will be rubbing against brackets up there. I need to get some good truck bed liner as well, I think I'm going to try painting my subframe black, so I'll see how it goes.

Thanks JB!!!

Not to jack, but if one uses these paint codes what clear is recommend for them?  Is the frame cleared?  I have never really looked.  Obviously the tank and fairing is painted with a clear.  Is it a urethane?

Sorry Jagged, just adding more info to the thread.

VHT makes a flat black epoxy paint that is tough as a tornado and is nearly that shade ...
Cool.
