Yea the C4C is a huge waste of $, resources and it will be producing greenhouse gasses. Sorry ... 30-75% is emmitted when the bloody car is made.
However Obama is sending people to school to study crap like CSI sciences. Here is where it will weirdly take effect into an increased job availability for these "graduates" ... BTW you can do just as well without studying anything ... but shhhhh dont tell the clowns that are running up huge debts cos Obama is giving them 50 bucks to go back to school.
India and china are having huge increases in cost of living. I used to never even look at prices when I used to go there in the 90's and even as late as 03/04. Literally it was all 1/2 the cost of what it was here, even if it was bought off discount racks here. Bottom feeding here was 2 X more $ than high end there.
Of late, my inlaws are buying from here to take there. Its like high end here is better than what you get for the same $ there.
India has a cultural difference though, cos kids there live with their parents for their whole life. There is no moving out. So you dont have to well, pay rent.
They also typically dont buy things on credit and make payments ... "how much a month" pretty much irrelevant.
I have heard chineese are getting very leary of the whole move to cities to work and get laid off and have to move back. "Boom and bust" now is going to cost more.
Unless there is outsourcing to africa the regular outsourcing is going to reverse course pretty rapidly.
Cool.

actually it is very successful and has worked well in all the countries that have gone with this plan. it is not a US invention, it actually comes from europe.
I hate cash for clunkers, I'm just tired of hearing about it, not so much the program itself. It was also annoying because I work for the state, and for the last month our governor told us we still had to come to work, but he just wasn't paying us until the budget got passed, so while I was coming to work every day and not getting paid, the rest of the country was freaking out because some people weren't going to get government money for their junk cars??
but yeah, that was the first thing I thought of when I started hearing that the intention was to get people driving newer cars with lower emmissions, how much of a waste is that just to junk all those cars and make everyone new ones. I ride a bicycle to work every day and I don't get jack!! How about some cash in my pocket for not owning a "clunker" in the first place??
Hmm, the world economy is equalizing maybe ? Dunno.
C4c is wasteful, dumb and .... ohhhh look, shiny new cars !!!
You'll give me 4500 for my crapbox ? Cooooool !

+1000000000000000000000000000000000
i allready own a "new" car, so this progam isn't helping me any. :dunno_white:
Yooo hooo Frankie - how you been.
C4C is letting people trade in running vehicles which the gubbamint through their sleazebag dealers seize the engine on. Then the cars are scrapped out. The
New car that the person has now bought, well dealers are gouging them to the tune of 5G when you say C4C.
So you just blew up your car, and paid 500 more for the new POS you're driving ... nice work.
Its all lying with numbers ... like someone said, there is lies, damn lies and statistics.
Blowing up something someone could have used, potentially for years and years is just wrong IMHO.
Now these people will be going to school, getting 10-50K debt and getting worthless degrees ...
Basically we are going to waste and borrow our way out of the recession. Nice work.
Cool.

Along with a whole raft of other things it does appear to be working in Europe, new car sales are up in UK for first time since 2007. France and Germany, where it started are "officially" out of reccesion and UK trends looking good. All the economists (how do you get THAT job?) can now worry about "double-dips" but on the face of it things could be working.
What annoys me is that I am looking around at buying new and I don't have an old banger to scrap!

I'm curious how saddling people with 4x their current debt is good for the gross economy ?
Sue, the dealers profit, and the automakers, but is such a short term bandaid.
I should go buy a junk car off someone for $400 and see if I can trade it in for $4500 on a new car.

Yes you can. Just follow the rules for clunker.
BTW dont expect a deal on the new car. Qualifiying cars have shot up in $. Worse, dealers act like jerks when you show em the voucher. They have been selling over retail on the new too.
What is good for detroit is good for america ... what BS, but small cars have been mis incentivised by the tax codes for the automakers for so long, this may help reverse that.

dang a ghost from the past......
Glad you are still with us(in more ways than one)
yes. they seemed to have implemented it without so much bs and red tape though
To qualify over here you have to have owned the banger for a year or more.
similar tape here cal
My 99 Sunfire GT doesn't qualify neither does my best friend's malibu. So, doesn't help me either and I could use a new vehicle being there is a patched four foot hole in the vert top! But, I made a good choice in my car back then so it seems like those who bought huge land yachts back then get rewarded now. I don't get it.
Seems like I read somewhere the most traded in clunker was the Ford Explorer!
Mary
neither does my 95 crown vic police car lol 17-23, but hten again, i dont want or need a new car. wont drive a small car, afer that wreck either. which is weird, cause ive got an rx7 vert im working on , and WILl drive that. but im nervous as hell when i did tho

funny you say that because the saturn dealership down the street from me has an explorer out front with "CASH 4 CLUNKERS!" spray painted all over it..... and actually, besides all the spray paint, it didn't look in bad shape at all
i might be purchasing a new car pretty soon so we'll see how that goes, my wife and i are thinking about trading the car we have now but trade-in value isn't very much on it and it's paid off so we might keep as my rainy-day-don't-feel-like-getting-wet car.

It gets even better. As of this weekend's news, some dealers have stopped doing C4C deals because they have millions outstanding, the government has yet to pay them, and they have little faith they ever will get paid because only 2% of that money has been repaid to date. As a result, many of the vehicles traded-in using the C4C program are being wholesaled. Who would ever have imagined that would happen? :icon_lol: Anyone with a brain, perhaps?
I hope the C4C program serves as an easy-to-understand lesson to ordinary folks who don't pay much attention to the government why it's a foolish idea to allow the government to get involved in anything they're not already involved in. Their new feel-good programs always have disasterous side effects. The clowns in Congress can't run a one-car funeral. They screw-up everything they touch. That my friends, you can take to the bank.
If the public learns that, perhaps the C4C program has some value after all!
lol for sure, when has the govt done ANYTHING without waste? lmao
Yea they have to "wholesale" the damn C4C's, and the dealers "gave" 4500 and charged 5+K more for the new car.
Yea now they can afford to give away the bloody cars ... They got a bunch of new crap off their lots double quick.
Go to a harley dealer and ask em what they do with jap bikes that are traded in. They would say ... oh yea, we get a wholesaler to come in and get that ... like it was garbage that will be got by a trash truck. In a way putting people into debt by "taking care of their problems" is the most lucrative thing there is.
I actually believe that the government is shafting the people, and is simply going to let the delaers sell the cars back into the local populace as "trade in'. That is in effect the best they are capable of.
Cool.

Check that out.
C4C removes usable vehicles from the secondary, tertiary, quaterniary market etc. A well maintained used truck may not be what everyone needs but if it has signifgant useful life left why are we wasting it and driving the prices up, I can take my used truck worth 2k and get 4.5k on a trade in the dealer pours liquid glass in the motor and runs it till it seizes. Meanwhile farmer George has a kid getting ready to drive and a good 15 year old truck would be ideal because it's exactly what his kid needs for helping out around the farm and hauling a trailer for his 4H or FFA stock. C4C is a waste and evn if I had a qulifying vehicle and was buying a new vehicle I would sell my used vehicle for less in a private party transaction to someone who needs it and could use it than take a government handout to bail out detroit.
Want to know why I drive fords? Because they succesfully rebuilt themselves and didn't go before the gov with their hands out like paupers.
Ford did some things that got them out of the corner they were in, and they were better to start with. In trucks they were the first to go to the overhead cam design. They also did a lot of stupid things, but some of em didn't bite em as much.
Chrysler IMHO is the worst. They were private, why did the government bail em. They should have let both GM and chrysler fail.
I like the PT cruiser and WTF is Chrysler thinking ... they are making the dodge ram but killing the PT cruiser WTF ...
Cool.
Buddha.
Ford had their oh shite we're in the tank a couple of years ago, they succeeded in bailing themselves out, so why couldn't GM follow that model of self suffciency? As for chrysler Iacocca saved them once with government assistance and the fed had no idea what to do with the money when he went to pay them back, how much you want to bet this time chrysler doesn't pay them back?
because of the UAW ;)

Sounds like you're praising Obama for using textbook Keynesian economics.
It is too bad that Congress caved and didn't require that people buy new cars with at least 28 MPG combined, or cars made in America.

Most of the ones sodl here in US are made here as well
Yes 28 mpg ... cam any one guess what the target of the next cash for clunkers target mileage for trading in will be circa 2017 ... just after the next president takes power ... yea you have to trade in a car that gets 28 mpg and get 4500 and you can get gouged on a car that gets 38 mpg ...
Take as many steps as possible to get to the mileage the bikes get ... which will at that point in time be close to ~100 and as many steps as you can get the public to take on debt ... booya ...
Cool.
Buddha.
i can get between 30-35mpg in town and 35-40mpg on long highway trips with the corolla. :dunno_white:
im averaging 23-25 on "miss piggy" ( my ol cop car) IF i keep my foot out of it :(
I was really surprised to see that the mustang 2008 mustang GT qualified as a clunker with combined mileage of 18mpg... wtf? The wife consistently gets 18~20 in town and on the highway we get 24~27.
Another crackhead big government welfare program, Glad it's almost over and that my tax dollars went to buy others an econo box[/sarcasm]

LOL INFUCKINDEED , thats one thign neding. whats gonna take its place, and perhaps waste more? ( that scares me)
Oh yea 1 year clause ... The Idiot Kia dealer let my friend buy a kia with the buick regal he traded in ... he had 8 months, they didn't check ... and than god they checked it before they destroyed it ... however not before he ran 1700 miles on the kia in 2 weeks. Idiot dealers get shafted by the gubbamint. ... Love it.
