Title: Mysterious Hose!?
Post by: impulse816 on August 09, 2009, 07:59:35 PM
Okay so I put in a K&N lunchbox and rejetted tonight and everything went fine, infact I have probably 20 or so pics to put up for maybe an updated version of the tutorial on the wikipedia page for the newer models. However I have 1 hose that I am not 100% sure what it does. It originally hooked up to the bottom of the airbox (not the drain... err the one that goes out the bottom of the bike) this one goes under the tank and up to the left side of the bike. It has a vacuum so I covered it with something breathable for now. What does this do, and what have you people done about it seeing as there is no place for it to go with the lunchbox installed.

Its not the breather and its not the drain.
Infact its not even in this picture...

Thanks!

show a picture of the hose you are talking about.  I recently installed a lunchbox on my '04 and didn't have any hoses that i didn't know what to do with.

Is it the PAIR hose?  This hose connects to the emissions system that would be located inside the front left corner of the frame (its bolted on).  Two hoses come out from that into the head.  The older models don't have the emission system (except CA models?) so its not shown in that pic.

Yeah this is exactly what it is. What should I do with it? Cause I just have the hose kinda sitting under my carbs/lunchbox. Bolted on to the frame right where you said it was. And has 2 hoses coming out of it. Its sucking air and I dont want it sucking crap into it so I put a piece of cloth over it for the time being. Ill do a little more research about it.

Its just where he says it is. The hose in this picture is still connected but its the only one i had with it in it. Its in the top left bolted onto the frame. This is the PAIR system correct?

I did some research and that is what it is. It just pulls air from the airbox into the exhaust. The 2 hoses run directly into the 2 pipes. Should I just leave it be and keep a breather cover on it so it doesnt suck crap up?

I have no idea :dunno_white:

In fact this was one of the things preventing me from doing the lunchbox/rejet/exhaust mod.  Hopefully we can find the answer for all time

i would say just putting either the cloth or getting one of the mini breather covers for it should work just fine since my understanding is that it is just pulling air from the airbox to begin with that has gone through the filter.  Luckily my bike didn't have a PAIR system so i didn't have to deal with this issue.
