Title: New Exhaust today 98-01 R6 Delkevic slip-on
Post by: jonathanneely on August 12, 2009, 02:02:48 PM
So I went ahead and ordered the 98 - 2001 R6 Delkevic full stainless slip on exhaust. The factory can was cut up by the previous owner and looked horrible. It sounded good but your bike's got to look good too. This was picked up off eBay for $159 shipped and I had a custom motorcycle builder here in town put it on for me since I don't have a mechanical bone in my body. It looks great and I'll be picking it up tomorrow. I'll take a video of it and post it so the everyone can hear the sound.

To get the R6 exhaust to fit a special spacer was fabricated to be placed at the bolt location for the canister mounting bracket. The rubber spacer/washer thingy was just not stout enough to offer stability and it caused the can to wobble all over the place. The outlet at the 2 in 1 is about 1.75" and the link pipe inlet is 2", not a perfect fit but it clamps down with the provided clamp. The center stand has to be removed because it hits the chain if left in place, but that doesn't bother me. Next is a 15 tooth front sprocket.

I also picked up some new leathers this weekend!

Alright! I picked it up and drove it home today! These are pictures that I just took 5 minutes ago. Now this exhaust is somewhat quite, probably comparable to stock, maybe a bit louder. Compared to what I had, it definitely looks better. It's got a nice throaty sound at lower rpm's and I haven't gotten it out in the curves to really hear it yet wound up.

Nice looking exhaust.  The original pictures you posted don't do it any justice.

are you running stock suspension with that muffler?  wonder how much it would have to be moved for the guys running the kat and R6 suspensions in them.

I cut 2.5" off the link pipe at the front and slipped it back on. It just looked way too long to me. Also, it allowed the hanger bracket to slide way up the can instead of being all the way at the end of it. It looks much better.
