I know a good many folks despise dealerships but I have to say I have found an awesome dealership.
Back story: I bought Flick at Florida Power Sports on OBT my best friend bought his Honda Shadow there too. They have always been curteous and helpful. I always try to buy things I need for Flick and Holly (the shadow) and well today it paid off!
I was having a horrible day today. Had to sit through two Dr. appointments totally eating up my day. On the way home I stopped on the side of the road to check out a Gold Wing for my friend. I guess Flick got jealous because I went to pull him up on the owners drive because the bike was starting to sink in the sand on the side of the road. NOTHING! The gentleman there didn't have jumper cables and I had to walk a block or so in 95 degree heat where a nice auto shop came over and jumped him off. Well, I was concerned with this sudden stopage so I stopped by FPS to see if they would check the battery. The guy was like normally they charge an hour of service but you come here all the time so we will check out the battery and charging system. My thoughts were " Great all I need is a dead battery. This day can't get much worse" Welll, it did. I saw a call from the Dr. I had just left listened to the voicemail : "Mary this is Dr. ..... call me back ASAP" So, as I'm waiting I dial up the office and this is what he said " Your thyroid biopsy came back positive for cancer you need to get to the ENT yesterday" " My thyroid biopsy is cancerous I repeated" " uhm, yeah go see that doc soon"
At this point I'm stunned. Who tells their patient on the phone they likely have cancer! So, I go outside to collect my thoughts Etc. The service manager comes out and says "Mary can you come inside" "Great more problems" "Well your battery is toast it is a miracle it made it that far" "Well, I don't have any money thanks to Bank of Amerca and the $39 mistake that turned into $400 can I make it two miles home." "Well, I overheard your conversation with your doc and I can't imagine what you are going through right now and I can't make it worse THE BATTERY IS ON US" Go take a nice long ride to charge him up and I'll pray that biopsy is a fluke!"
I was speechless and honestly I cried a little because that was an amazing act of generosity on a disasterous day! That man just made a life long customer!
Mary
thats great on the dealorships part and sucks on the DR's part. i hope everything goes ok mary. my prayers are with you. keep your head up. my grandpa had melinoma 4 and they gave him 6 months to live. He proved them all wrong and made it over 7 yrs before it got him. so get out there ride the hell outta flick and remember keep your head up. every day is a blessing most of the time in disguise.
My thoughts and prayers new found neighbor!
You know I really don't think it has sunk in yet. But, from what I've read it is 99% treatable. Let's hope it's an out right fluke or in the 99% shall we!
Mary
Know what think I'm gonna go out to bike night tonight!
Yes, Mary, I have also heard that it is very treatable. Please enjoy bike night and know our thoughts and prayers are with you!
That dealership is a keeper for sure.
I hope everything goes well Mary. :)
Me too, hoping for best.
But take it easy on Doc? He was accelerating your care , right, removing any delay? Delay is Bad.
Best wishes.
And thanks for helping me get over my own troubles this day.
Best of luck, you are one of the best contributors on this site, and seem to be a great person.
Oh, and make sure to call BoA and rip them a new one till you get your money back.
I Ripped BoA so much that my anger sent me to the hospital with my heart. Then realized I needed to let it go hospital bills are more expensive LOL!
What irked me so much about this is that I had the biopsy done in JUNE! He happened to see the results as he was flipping through the chart after I left. But, it is not going to change anything now yelling at them.
It decided to downpour tonight so no bike night UGH!
But, yeah the dealership guys are good people. And thanks all for the words of support and concern. It just seems as if it is not one thing it is another. But, as in the Chumbawumba song " I get knocked down, But I get up again. Your, never gonna keep me down"
Mary
I've learned that the healthiest thing to do is to get into some sheep lovin'. Does a body good.

Dear Mary:
I am so sorry to hear the news. It was bad manners on the part of the doc, but if it were me I don't think I'd care. I mean, if I had to go to his office to hear the news it might cost me the hours needed to get treatment in time. The sooner I get the news, the sooner I can get to the hospital, the better my chances. I would look at it that way, and I hope all goes well for you.
Guess what got me Bill is that I was just there not even an hour before hand! He could have told me then instead of on the phone.
Oh well, I have an appointment on Tuesday with the ENT doc and see what they say. Don't know why I'm seeing an ENT for the thyroid thought enocrinologist did that organ :dunno_white:
Gotta figure out what to do as a small token of my appreciation to the dealership.
Mary
First of all, I'm really sorry to hear about your bad news. My mom just got diagnosed with the same thing and she's having surgery in 2 weeks. It's definitely no fun. Odd thing is, her doctor told her over the phone on a Friday night at like 7pm. Crappy timing...
And then for some clarification: I'm actually an RN, so I know a bit how this works. The ENT docs (their full scope of practice includes Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, Throat or HEENT), will be the ones taking care of the actual surgical removal of the mass along with likely at least part of the thyroid gland (sometimes the whole thing) depending on what they find. An endocrinologist will follow your care after the surgery is complete to ensure that your thyroid hormone levels are normal and can prescribe "replacement" thyroid hormones to make up for any part of the thyroid removed. Just thought I would explain that a little, for what it's worth. Keep your head up, there will be a lot of people here thinking about you and praying...
Yeah, I figured. I've actually had the nodule for quite some time. What worried them was that it was just one. But, said 99% of all nodules were noncancerous esp in people my age. So, I didn't put much into it after the biopsy and when they didn't say anything figured it was all right. Looks like I was wrong!
I just want Tuesday here to see what exactly is going on!
Mary
Well, the ENT says the thyroid needs to come out. I have another appointment with him in three weeks so I can get all of the pre-op and cardiac clearances done ahead of the actual date.
All I know is that dang it I am not having Surgery on the 21st of September I am going to the Dolphin's homeopener come hell or high water!
Pray that when the surgery does happen it is a quick and easy one with no other issues!
Mary
Wander back in and bring plate of cookies to thank them. They prefer beer but not during work hours.
Good luck.
Mary, I hope everything goes well for you!
Mary,
Best wishes and a speedy recovery! You're tough as nails and have been through a lot - this is just a bump in the road, and i hope you make it to the opener!
Thanks guys. That is my motto "life is a bump in the road take it with you butt slightly off the seat and bend your knees" LOL. Yeah, I plan to bring them a plate of wings just gotta get my finances in a little better shape!
