Title: Track days in Texas
Post by: joker79507 on August 14, 2009, 06:34:11 PM
Does anyone down south in texas (Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Austin) do track days?  If yall do, who do you go with?  Im looking to start but I figure there are better places to go for the first timer, and i really dont have anyone around here that could send me in the right direction..

Elite Track Days is the best of the best. After that, Texas Track days. RideSmart is at the bottom of the list.

Elite - Moira (the owner/operator) is a really cool gal, and keeps the admitted number REALLY low so the track isn't over crowded. The instructors she uses are fantastic, and you will learn a LOT from them. Prices are the highest of the three. You get what you pay for.

TTD - A few more people on track than Elite's, but still a great group of guys. TTD is only slightly behind Elite, but the prices are much lower. If cost is a factor, try for TTD, otherwise, Elite.

RideSmart - LOTS of people at every track day. Can be quite crowded. Often filled with newbies who more prefer blasting it down the straights than learning proper cornering. If you go to a Ride Smart track day with an open mind, you can still learn a lot. Seek out an instructor who is willing to help you and practice your own things. Don't get caught up trying to just open it up in the straights, work on your corner speed and be patience with the other people on the track. I've done a few track days with them, and they are the most affordable. Their only big problem is the sheer amount of people that show up, and therefore the amount of idiots that can leak through.

I know I am new to the board and this is an older post, but Texas Track Days apparently went out of business back in July '09, so I wouldn't try that route....   :icon_eek:

I have riden in RideSmart trackdays many times and have had a blast.  I have learned alot from the instructors and never thought the track was too crowded.  I have talked to Moira several times (she is on another board I frequent) and she is a great person.  I hope to get out to do a trackday with Elite this year sometime, but currently am planning mostly RideSmart events.  There first event is this coming Monday (Presidents Day) February 15th.  If you aren't doing anything, head out to Texas World Speedway (College Station) and check them out.

PM me if you want some links to a couple forums in the area that are big into trackdays.  Helps with finding people to carpool to the tracks with and gives you a group of people to hang out with while there as well.
