Title: How do I know if my GS is running at great conditions?
Post by: asung on October 07, 2003, 10:47:25 PM
Hi all,
Sounds like a very generic question.  The problem is, I am not too mechanically inclined (never fix my car or anything like that)  The oil change for my GS a few weeks ago was a HUGE step forward for me.  So how do I know if my GS is running at peak efficiency? Any suggestions?

I am not a bike expert, but am, good with cars and engines

things too look for:

does it idle properly(not fluctuate) when warm?

Does it start right up cold or hot, just set the choke accordingly?

any leaks, gas, oil?

when you give it gas, does it bogg down, or luinge forward?

smell the exhaust, it should not have too much odor.

MOST (obviously not leaks) of these problems can be fixed by cleaning and setting the carberator correctly

hope this helped,
James

And should have no problems at steady throttle and when closing throttle either. You also should get gas mileage in the high 40's at a minimum... unless the bike got K&N pods and a pipe. Then low 40's.
Cool.
