Title: Expect everything
Post by: ohgood on September 08, 2009, 04:30:49 PM
I caged it today because of blah blah blah (no one cares why!) and on the way home from work..

WHAP !!! say it yourself, then about 10 times louder is what I heard.

A nice sized ( 1 - 1 1/2" ) piece of spinning gravel smacked my windshield smacked my windshield directly infront of my face. Had I been on the bike I'm pretty sure it would have hit me square in the face shield, most likely shattering it. I saw it coming, but there isn't much need in ducking in a truck.

OK, it wouldn't have really happened on the bike, cause I never take the highway home on the gs.. But still.

Watch out guys and girls, there was no reason to believe gravel was going to come flying up. No big trucks, just lame cager commuters.

:) Slow Down !

My dad had a similar story, he knew a guy when he was in college that had a bee go in his helmet, ended up hitting a telephone pole and was killed.

I have had two bee related incidents on the gs but thankfully did not lose control of the bike.

both times I said Doh! a bee

I hate bees  :2guns:

You know what I have decided is going to kill me someday? tractor trailer re-treads. Those tires are the most assinine, self centered way to save money. Who's genius idea was it to glue tread onto worn out tires, and let people drive with them on the highway until they eventually rip off the tire to hit whoever is around? I can't figure out how something like that is even legal. I wonder how often someone on a motorcycle gets nailed with one right in the head.

I get that trucks drive forever, and tires aren't cheap, but still, way to save a couple bucks by risking everyone elses safety aside from your own.

Yes these things are terrible and dangerous.  :2guns:

My fiancee had about $2000.00 of damage done to her 1 week old car from a retread.

From the size of the dents it put in her hood I can only imagine the carnage that would result from a direct hit to the face.

Never been hit by a large rock before in the helmet (touch wood) but have been hit in the head by birds numerous times wile riding in the country.

The parrots where I grew up during the fruit season would eat all the over ripe fruit and get drunk.  A car comes along (or bike) and scares the birds more often than not in your direction and BANG.  Never come off from hitting one but they hurt when they hit you in the helmet.

Retreads.....those things are dangerous.  Been made illegal over here but I think they can still be used on trailers

A parrot!? that sounds painful. We have little birds here. Never had one to the head, but I have gotten 2 or 3 in that space under the headlight and above the front wheel. They try to play that game like they do with cars where they swoop down to get lift off of the air blowing over the cars windsheild, but don't realize that you're too small to push that kind of air. I have almost gotten a pigeon or two to the face in the city though.

I don't think re-treads are legal on normal cars, I believe it's only trailers here as well, but I see one laying on the side of the highway every time I'm out, so it's definitely not common for them to rip off at speed.

I was nailed by a retread in my truck at 65mph it was as long as my Isuzu was wide. I lost controll and rolled my truck on the interstate. Then this Easter (I'm 90% it was a tire) a softball sized piece of tire hit me in the shoulder and seperated it. If I hadn't had my jacket on I'm sure I would have lost control of the bike!

Thank goodness I've never been hit by a rock OUCH!

To be honest, when you're going 65, I don't really know much much more a rock would've hurt.

it worries me a bit around here. we have tons of seagulls. and of course, they aren't afraid of people or cars because people feed them from their cars.  :cookoo:

Yeah, I have had a BEE fly into my freaking helmet before. Luckily he got stuck inbetween the visor and I was able to stop and figure it out.

Freaked me out for sure. O0
