Hi everyone so I'm just looking for an opinion for two helmets... Right now I have a hjc cl-15... Now I want to upgrade and I'm debating between a shoei rf-1000 and a hjc fs-15...I like the hjcs fit And price I like the shoei because it's a shoei and I think it has better ventilation ...what do you guys think? Which has better road noise? Thanks
also my gf wants to upgrade her helmet also and she likes the icon assault ssr..what do u guys think?

I probably have 15k miles over 2 years on my RF1000 and haven't had a single problem. Switching visors is super easy. No complaints with the ventilation in the summer. It's easy to open and close the vents while riding. There are several different thicknesses of cheek pads so you can swap them out to fit perfectly. Road noise is pretty good. On my other bike (busa) the windscreen causes the wind to hit right at the base of the helmet and it can be really loud...louder than my old helmet was. It's fine on the GS, and super quiet on my wife's moped (WOT is 45mph :D)
The only bad is that it does seem to like to fog when it's below 45 degrees, though. It's especially bad with the bottom vent closed. I resolved it by hitting it with plexus once a week. Hasn't seemed to hurt the visor at all and does a pretty good job at preventing fog.
I have a kind of oval head. My brother has a round head and absolutely hated the fit. Make sure you try it on.
Have your gf try a Scorpion helmet. They prices are similar to HJC, and they tend to fit girls better. I have an EXO-400 and will never buy another brand I love it so much!

Check the fit first and foremost, a tad tight on the cheeks won't hurt a bit.
ya ive tried on both...the hjc is very comfortable...the shoei is not as comfortable because its a little tight but itll probably become better after the pads are worn in a little....i can live with both of the helmets in fit and comfort...its ventilation and wind noise is what its comming down to.
i just noticed theres a fs-15 carbon, so i guess the three that im looking at are the shoei rf-1000, hjc, fs-15 carbon, and the hjc fs-15(fiberglass)
I stopped buying Made In China helmets when I started becoming more aware of where all the cheap crap we buy comes from (HJC and Scorpion are).
My head didn't fit the RF1000 (it would give me pressure points in the forehead after 15min or so), which has a very round shape. I now have a Hornet, and it's more oval - fits great. High-quality helmet, too, everything from the vents to the paint job.
Is there a good chart that shows which helmets are more "oval" and which ones are more "round"? I have discovered I have an egg head (oval) and the el sheapo helmet that I bought is definitely round and crap. (Pressure point at the top of the forehead and base of the back of my skull.) It's also too big but too small. O0

ditto, remember to have it properly fitted and strap the damn thing down with the visor down too. i don't know how many times i have seen riders with the strap either hanging off or loose. either way it does not help. also visor down will protect your eyes whilst riding and in an accident. safety equipment needs to be used properly in order to perform properly.
i personally like the fit of my HJC helment. the only thing i really want is a bit better ventilation and a bit more areodynamics.
so ive come to the desicion that im getting the shoei rf-1000...now i just have to wait for a good sale

LOL sorry. It's a great site. Check out the Shark's or the Arai's. I switched from an HJC to my Scorpion due to the poor fit on my head, and the extreme poor ventilation. It was like I was going through a wind tunnel every time I was on the bike. Arai and Shoei are two fantastic helmets, but can tend to be awful pricey. Likewise, you get what you pay for. I can't say enough about Scorpion for myself. It's a lower priced helmet, with some of the best features around. Also, check out this site. If you do go Scorpion, it's the best deals and the customer service is second to none!

There is more to a helmet than just a good fit. What's the point of buying the best helmet when you can't see out of it?
I have a Scorpion Exo-700 Black Dahlia and an Arai Vector helmet. While the Arai helmet fits well, is extremely light weight and the material very soft on the skin, the visor fogs up on the first exhaled breath - even though Arai advertises the visor to be anti-fog for that model. I have fiddled with the vents in all possible combinations to get optimum air flow to prevent fogging, to no avail. Even riding with the visor open a tiny crack doesn't help. I don't wear the Arai as often as I'd like for that reason alone. I ended up having to install an anti-fog shield before I could even think about wearing the Arai helmet. The anti-fog, light-sensitive shield is made by ProGrip in Italy and available from most bike part retailers through Parts Unlimited in Canada. Cost is about $25.
The Scorpion helmet by contrast weighs a ton. The fabric is not as nice on the skin and tends to pill after a short while. The fit is still great and is really comfortable for the shape of my head. The best feature is the visor - no fogging no matter how hot your breath is and how cold it is outside. I tried to make the Scorpion visor fog up until I nearly passed out. No such luck. This feature alone is worth the weight difference. And the cost is less than half that of the Arai ($637 vs. $249). :thumb:
When you find a helmet that feels good on your head see if the retailer will let you take it outside. Close the visor and give it a few good breaths. Find out if no-fog really means NO FOG.

Yeah I can't say enough good things about my Scorpion helmet. And the visor doesn't seem to scratch up either. However, mine seems lightweight compared to my HJC. I have the EXO-400.
Shoei RF1000 FTW! Anything less and your a weenie anything more and you're an overbearing show off.

FYI as much as I like the shoei it does have cool weather fogging issues... I use a breath gaurd with it which helps but when I have the chin curtain in place I still have to crack the visor open until I get moving good and get airflow through the vents.
I believe ScottPA was selling some for $100 albeit they had they busa logo on there.
