So my wife has gotten really into mopeds, and as it turns out, I really hate them. It shouldn't be too difficult, considering they're technically just really little motorcycles, with about 8 parts on the whole bike. I'm also very fond of little motorcycles, like the cb125 and cb175, which I hope to find over winter for next year. Small bikes are great because we live in the city, and having something that weighs 200lbs completely makes up for any lack of power you have, but it can never be that simple.
All of a sudden we have 3 of them in our basement, one of which I haven't even gotten running yet, although I think I'm pretty close, but the more I look at the little things, the more I despise them. Little motorcycles are just little motorcycles, but somehow mopeds come with this giant culture of moped kids that are fascinated with them, and I assume it's just that way because unlike motorcycles, different states are pretty lax on them. You don't have to get them inspected, you don't need an M class on your license, some places you don't have to register them, so finding one at a yard sale without a title isn't an issue. There's moped gangs, and they all sit around talking about their 70cc kits and bigger carbs, half of these things have over $1000 in them and still only go 40mph.
So it's not the actual mopeds I don't like, because they can be fun to ride, and I don't dislike people who ride mopeds, because plenty of them are nice enough, there's just so much baggage that comes with the stupid things. I don't really know what the point of this was, I just felt like venting my frustration from being in the basement trying to figure out what's wrong with the one of them.
This is just a random picture off of google, I think it's a moped gang from NY

my wife's nephews ride mopeds. i suppose it's really cheap around town transportation. :dunno_white:
Sounds like the fixie culture in bicycles.
I don't like anything that's trying to be a motorcycle. Cool scooter, would be cooler if it had real wheels and could get somewhere like a motorcycle. Cool bicycle with identity crisis, I mean moped. :technical:
Just be happy you have a wife that wants to ride something with two wheels and a motor, many men don't even have that. Although, I'd rather have a girl on the back of my bike than on a MOPED >:( hmmm, tough one.
Lol that tan one on the right. i picked up one IDENTICAL to it. from an auto auction for 50 cleaned it up, got it running, in less than an hour. and imimeidaly sold it for almost 400

\Just be happy you have a wife that wants to ride something with two wheels and a motor,
The GS is actually hers. Although yesterday I asked her what her plans with it were, now that I've got it just about running again, if she had plans on riding it again or if she didn't really care about it, and she said she didn't really care so it looks like it's a step backwards on the two wheeled evolutionary scale. So it looks like when I get it running consistently and inspected I'll probably just put it up for sale and look for something for myself. If the time was pretty closer I'd have picked this thing up already........ http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/1372984006.html considering the GS could pay for that, plus cover a new clutch and whatever else it needs for a good 121hp :thumb:
I'm sure someday when we move out of the city she'll trade them in for a motorcycle considering she won't really be able to get anywhere on a moped, I doubt it'll be something as big as the GS though.
Love the protective gear they are wearing. Typical of moped/scooter riders though.

Sleeve Tats and pegleg girls capris...
Thats fixie fer sure ! :thumb:
if youtube ever finishes converting my video (shot today) i'll post a link here. fella next to me in traffic had a moped with almost no exhaust muffling, almost as annoying as a HD with slash pipes, but with extra backfire magic and neato smelly smoke to match.
Yeah, some of those things are loud. Those kids love their aftermarket exhausts as much as guys on motorcycles, not to mention they're all 2-stroke
Ohgood: Don't say ANYTHING about HD's being annoying as you will upset Birdman.
(he a little sensitive about HD's)
Just having a joke with ya Birdman :icon_twisted:

I just dont agree with the HD hatin, thats all. I like 'em, had great times on them.....
But, I like all bikes, especially the one thats under me
To stay mildly on topic, I had a Stella/Vespa 150 for a while....Now that was F-U-N !
It was a 2 stroke 150 that I piped and jetted perfectly...It was so much fun to ride :icon_mrgreen:
Scooter people put HD old heads to shame. all they do is drink and take their clothes off.
If you ever want to see stuff that will make you laff, go to a scooter meet. I cant see moped ppl
being too different, just scooter kids in training :D
i had a Dna 70cc 2 stroke , top end of 70 mph , fun!, did like 80 mpg
mopeds are cool. I pretended to drag race one to hold up a corvette behind it, it was awesome there was an air high-five and everything
......
