Title: horay...I'm done with the GS500 forever!!!
Post by: ineedanap on September 14, 2009, 05:45:00 PM
I'm out!!!

My wife had an "intervention" with me.  She declared that I have to buy a faster bike!!!

It all started last month.  We went to a track weekend together.  Some of the instructors that were pitted next to us mentioned to her that the GS wasn't a very good track bike, and it was holding me back.  I thought they were just being nice, but my wife started asking questions.  She took an interest in what was going on.  She started checking out the other bikes around the pits.  She learned the difference between GSXRs and Ninjas and twins versus fours.  I was really surprised.

My wife surprised me and bought me some photos from the last track day.   We were laughing together about how my $1500 GS500 is about to pass a Ducati.

She said it's time to buy something a little faster.  She doesn't care what it is, but declared the GS has to go.  She says that It's time to move on to a better bike for the track.   I was planning on keeping the GS for another year, but hey, why argue.  I don't have the right words to describe it but I am the luckiest man in the world to have this woman as my wife.  I'll be parting out the GS soon.  Check out the for sale section this week for some really cool parts.

And remember to take your wife to track days!!!  It might work out better than you had planned.

Awesome! I'm in a similar situation, but not because my wife wants me to have a faster bike(the opposite considering she wants to limit me to 750cc ) but she decided she's not really interested in riding the GS anymore, so once I get it all cleaned up I'll just sell it and use the money towards something faster for myself!

Sounds like a keeper for sure!!!

I upgraded to a gsxr 750 and I'll tell you what, if your a track day junkie, your going to LOVE your new bike compared to the GS500.

Stick with suzuki!!!! Look into the 750 its a nice combo of power and handling.

That guy that told her that the GS wasn't a good track bike probably rides on the street to get attention.

People RACE their GS's on the track.  That's good enough for me to consider a GS a good track bike.

So you didn't tell us what bikes you were considering replacing it with. Is it going to be a track only bike, or is it going to be street use as well??

Actually it was a couple of instructors that coach track days and race WERA.   They all had $$$ bikes...probably to get attention!  :D

That's the part I think I will miss the most about the GS.  People at the track look at it and see a piece of crap.  You can see it in their face when you talk to them.  They are 100% sure that their bike is a million times faster than the GS.  Then you go out and ride the living hell out of it.  After you pass them a few times their attitude changes.  Then the same people come around to your pit after and have all kinds of questions and compliments about the bike.  It's like a 380lb conversation starter.

lmao

I had the same experience at my MSF ERC...  I had the "smallest" bike there...  500cc.  Everyone else had bigger engines.

By the time we took our first break, half the people there were coming to me and commenting on how awesome my bike moves and such.  I was proud.  lmao

Take that beotch out and burn it to the ground... Good decision if your going to spend money on upgrades spend it on a bike worth upgrading don't just throw money down a never ending pit for no good reason other than to say you have a proletariats bike!  :technical:

I will never undestand the fascination with starting with substandard poop and trying to make it something it isn't.

It has stock suspension. I give you a month before you swap it out for GSX-R units.

What region of WERA?  My boyfriend and I go to a lot of WERA events.  Just wondering if we've crossed paths before

I'm pretty sure we're the north central region.

You probably have crossed path with my instructors, but not me.  I'm just doing lots of track days.   Racing is next on my list.  My complete lack of skill means it will have to wait at least another year, though.  :D
