First off, would it be better for chain life to go to a 45 tooth sprocket in the back, instead of a 14 tooth in the front, because of the larger area for the chain to spin around?
And, just wondering, if a 15 tooth sprocket would allow the gs500 to give a real wheelie? Or if you would have to go all the way down to a 14.
Next, is there any good way to stabilize the gs500f without costing uber loads of money.
Kind of like the same effect as having a 200lb person on the back , while cruising the highway, MUCH MORE STABLE!
a gs500 will do a wheelie with stock gearing. a shock swap will give you more stability, and thicker fork oil coupled with aftermarket springs in the forks will give a more stable ride
The cheapest way I can think of is to find a 200 lb passenger. You like thick girls, right?? :thumb:
This will also help with the wheelies in the stock gearing
Ahahaha, yes yes, of course, but I am wondering if it can do a REAL wheelie just by going down one sprocket in the front? :thumb:
I went down 1 in the front and I do not think it to be much easier to do a wheelie. Still gotta lean back a lot.
what's a difference between "REAL" and unReal wheelie?
isn't wheelie a wheelie?
or maybe you meant POWER wheelie? where you use only your throttle to get the front wheel up??
if you meant power wheelie then I bet you'll have to go down to 14T front and up few teeth in the back!!
and last: if you purchased GS500 for doing wheelies then you chose DAMN wrong - it's air cooled engine with not much torque.
I am not saying that wheelies are impossible on GS500, cause I saw many videos of guys doing that, but there are much better "stunt" bikes.
I just put on a 15t front sprocket the other day.
Acceleration is a little improved but nowhere near enough for a power wheelie.
14T will provide a wheelie but not enough to really make an "official" wheelie with stock rear. probably a foot of the ground. If you want more you need to change the back sprocket as well.
I can accidentaly get a wheelie going but not high enough with my 14t and stock rear.
Ahahhaa, no no no no, I bought the gs500 because it is a nice looking beginner bike with excellent insurance rates.
I can only afford sport tourers, but I love the stunt line as I do free running and that moves onto my bike. Dangerous. But excelllent fun.
So I can only adapt the bike I have to what I want without the crap insurance.
Thanks for answering my questions about the 15 t. So you definitly need a 14.
My bike has 14/47, which is -2/+8, and I still can't do that great of wheelies. I can get the front up high enough to ride it out while I'm sitting down if I completely dump the clutch, but nothing graceful.

That has to be a record!!!
at one point, I had a 12 tooth front, with a 42 rear. was't really into wheelying, just tried it out cuz I found the sprockets on ebay for cheap

ill wheelie a harley bagger, learn to wheelie on stock gearing, look in the photo gallery, im in there on stock gearing, and that is a real wheelie.
