Title: NEw User and a quick question about odometer/speedometer light
Post by: inexplicable718 on September 16, 2009, 01:07:57 AM
Hi everyone. I recently bought suzuki gs500e year 98. For some reason the light bulb is not working for the speedometer but the rpm meter light is working fine. Is there any way i can change the light myself? also the front turn signal lights are not working and i am not sure why? is it the bulbs ? because the back turn signal lights are working fine.......

There is a bulb that goes into the back of the speedo to light the dial.  It is easy to get to - you just have to pull the gauge bucket and it pops right out.  Easy to replace and roll on.

ok i have an 08 so this may be different for 98 if not. ...   on the speedometer side you need to unscrew 4 things.    The speedometer cable. The two screw underneath the bowl.  the very small screw for the odometer reset.  The top parts pulls out of the bowl.

Once it is out.. the light bulb is located underneath that but its held into place just by rubber. You have to pull out.. for me just using smally pressure i pinched the wires and pull out that way.. i wasnt able to pull out just trying to grab the rubber itself. just do if very carefully if you are pulling from the wire and to be as close to the rubber as possible.

Thankx guys. I will try doing that tonight or tomorrow. I tried fixing the front turn signal lights but the bulbs are not the problem. I think there is something wrong with the wires or something.. Anyone knows how to fix the wires for the front turn signals?

Follow the wires for the front turn signals and check every connection along their path. I have had some weird gremlins mysteriously unhook signal wires that make them stop working all together or get bumped against the headlight and make it blink whenever I put on the turn signal. A quick check let me fix the problem in < 5 mins.
