I need your expertise in choosing long lasting tire for my GS,I ride usually about 400 miles every week ,it'S my main mode of commuting.I had rear tire Pirelli Mt08 130/80-17 it has lasted about 7000 miles.Now I need to change the tire,So guys with your previous experience need suggestion on tire that is economical,long lasting and good traction in wet condition.
what are your opinin on dual sport tires like this SHINKO705

why the street trail tire, do you ride in dirt a lot? cool.
Ride mostly on freeway to work 140 miles both ways ,need tire with best traction in rain and high mileage as well
Avon Roadriders. Just got myself a set, and they're amazing. Awesome grip, and all the reviews I read said they are a long lasting tire.
I second the Avon Roadriders. Both of my tires were getting a little low, so I figured that I should buy a new pair, and the difference is phenomenal. Excellent grip on the road during dry weather, but I haven't had the opportunity to try them out in the rain yet though.
I also have Avon Road Riders and I really like them.
They are sticky enough, seem to wear well, and not too expensive.

They run good in the rain. I hate to get my bike (and myself) soaked, but I had to test them out. :thumb:

Seems you already have some good answers so I'll just add my vote for the Roadriders as a real bargain tire for the GS considering cost/life with more than adequate handling. Just posted on subject in another thread:

Altho the Shinko tires are getting good reviews on the various forums I just don't see putting a dual sport type on the GS for street/highway commuting.
I'll throw in my .02 for the Roadriders. I'm on my second rear one. I got 14,000 miles on the first one, currently at 7,400 on the second. The first front one is currently at 23,900 and I expect to replace it in about 1,000 miles or so.
will go in for Avon Road rider then but do I need to do any alterations for using 140/70tire because am using 130/80 in the rear and there is hardly 5mm clearance between the connecting link of brake calipers and tire.
and which is best suited 130/70 or 130/80 for Highway riding condition
You may have to bend the brake torque bar - a simple 5-10 minute operation with a press or sledgehammer (with or without a blowtorch). Then you could put on a 150 tire if you'd like. However, many have (and probably will again) pointed out here that you might as well do the Katana rear wheel swap (or SV?) if you are going to go through the trouble. If money is an issue though... don't listen to them :thumb:
I'll also nth the RoadRiders. Bought them based on gsJack's experience and posts (and after 7500 miles on the OEM Bridgestones) and after 2000 miles I have to say these tires feel far better.
I have a 140/70 Roadrider for my rear, and I don't have any clearance issues (un-modded brsake arm)... Maybe that's just me? Haha
