Title: another tyre combo question-sorry all!
Post by: gs500Ant on September 25, 2009, 10:16:39 AM
iv'e found a sv 99-02 wheel that has a bridgestone battlax 160 good rubber fitted for a decent price,-

1- my front tyre is pirelli sport demon 110-70, these are bias ply tires, right?

2-the bridgestone battlax 160's are bias ply aswell? so no compatibility problems there, right?

3-from what i can find out the bridgestone battlax's are 160-60, is this an issue with the front being a 70mm depth wall,i take it it is? :dunno_white:

sorry, havent swatted up on tyres as yet, bout the only thing i havent read on here :embarrassed:

1.  Yes

2.  Probably not.  There are lots of different styles of the battlax.  (BT45, BT014, BT090, BT021 and many more)  You'll need to figure out exactly what one you have.

3.  The overall diameter of a 160/60 is very close to a stock 130/70 so there won't be any issue with height.  Width is a whole different story and there are lots of good writeups here concerning dealing with the added width.

thanks ineedanap, i was a bit hasty in getting my question up on here, sorry all-should of realised/found ot that battlax come in all forms, bias and radial :cookoo:

have emailed the guy and asked him the tire type,

if its a radial is that a big no no :nono:?

Radial front with bias rear is a no-no, can cause serious oversteer if pushed to the limit.  A Demon bias front with a Battlax radial rear should work OK.  I ran a Lasertec bias front with a RoadAttack radial rear and they ran very well together.  Quite a few bikes are coming with oem bias front and radial rear combo now including some HD with Dunlop tires and they've always been the most conservative in tire applications in the past.

I ran a bt020 and bt021 radial rears with a bt45 bias front, and never experienced any driveability of stabilty problems with either of them
