Title: GR650 motor swap
Post by: CliffHanger on September 28, 2009, 06:31:51 AM
So, a couple of years ago everyone was going on about the GR650 motor swap...
Anyone who has done this able to testify to its performance and complexity of swap?

I saw a GR650 for sale locally for $600 asking price.

Why am I considering this?
I love my GS but I've been loking for a bit more grunt; been considering an SV650.

I did it butam yet to finish the job.
I bought a GR as well. Mine had a base gasket leak, apparently a common problem in those.
Its not that impressive and it redlines at 8500. It does make torque, and the 2 stage flywheel makes for an interesting kick @5K, and yes you run out of steam @8500. I'd get the SV, cos GR is a cruiser motor.

Over bore it to 851cc, lighten everything make larger valves and what not and you can get some serious revs and power. Else you'd have to ride it like a cruiser.
Cool.

I'll pass on the bike then...

If anyone else wants to take it on, the bike is in Stathroy Ontario
