Title: Electrical system upgrade?
Post by: NonFiction on September 28, 2009, 12:50:54 PM
I've searched around a little and am not finding the info. In dirtbike and adventure touring world, seems like it's pretty common practice for riders to have their bike's stator rewound so that it has a higher output capacity, and the ability to power brighter lights and more accessories. Can GS500 ownders do this too? Or is the system pretty robust--like, capable of powering, say, electric vest, heated grips, and foglights at the same time?

Dirt bikes have stator poles left empty @ the factory cos the bike need very little electricity. The ones they sell you have all the poles filled up. A GS has no empty poles on the stator.
The big current draw devices, you may have to turn off the last 5-10 miles before you stop to get the battery pumped up more or it may just be too weak to turn the motor when you wanna restart.
Cool.

Ahh, I guess I kinda remember that. I was just thinking they put more wire, or more conductive wire on the posts, but that makes sense. Thanks.
