I checked the Wiki but couldn't find anythign iseful. When I squeeze my throttle even a tiny amount my rpm shoot up 6-7k, and since I'm still a fairly new rider this makes it awkward to practice if I launch or prepare to take a corner with such high rpms. So is there a way to adjust the throttles sensitivity in any way?

there is adjustment on the throttle itself (2 cables where they join the throttle on the hanlebar) 1 is to open the throttle the other to snap it back (close it).to adjust the throttle opener this end there is a round screw you should be able to turn with your fingers.
or on the carbs themself,again throttle open and throttle close cables.you need to loosen the lock nut on the throttle open cable (towards the rear of bike if i recall) and slacken the nut underneith it. the throttle should have some freeplay

rpms don't matter. Learning to slip the clutch is key. Do a few clutch slipping 6000 RPM launches in a BIG parking lot to get the feel. It is better for the first 100 miles of riding to basically never release the clutch fully in 1st gear. With a lean jetted bike, that habit will save your a$$. If it bucks, it won't stall that way. And you won't go down, either. And the higher RPMs allow you a bit of power to move.
If you have an older model GS there will only be 1 throttle cable :thumb:
most throttle mods are for quicker opening.
Do the jetting and it will pull smoother off idle, which would help a bit.
You can add friction with cruise control.
You can add more refined movement with ? Forget the name, it wraps around grip and gives you a thumb rest on throttle. It see one out there in England for ten pounds called motorcycle throttle aid. Thats not what mine has stamped on it. It works on my bike, its easy to move throttle in smaller increments using it. Mine was $13 USD, bought off of advertiser on SV site. Sold the SV and kept the throttle thingy.
