Title: reassembled, running, but problems
Post by: cyberdork on October 03, 2009, 07:58:45 AM
Alright got it fired up this morning after I cleaned the carbs last night. Took it out for about 20 minutes and got the idle set and got it up around 60mph. Alright here's the deal:

1) Very jerky
2) Sometimes sputters a cloud of something out of the carb
3) Randomly dies (Not sure if I have fuel lines hooked up wrong, but only stays running on PRI, but bogs down and dies even on PRI)
4) Surges to 4-5K and stays steady (luckily not while in gear)

I haven't synced the carbs, that was a miserable failure in trying to find a gauge OR the supplies to make one. I went to sears and advanced auto parts and they had absolutely no idea what I was talking about. Napa didn't have the gauge either but luckily knew what I was talking about. Advanced had tube in 2ft incriments and I didn't feel like buying all that damn tube and connectors to build the home made manometer. I THOUGHT I got lucky at NAPA when they said they had tube by the foot, but it wasn't clear  :technical: Anyone have a manometer they'll lend me?  :icon_mrgreen:

Where are you located?  I have a manometer if you are in the Baltimore area.

Cool, I'm in Towson and my manometer is at work in Cockeysville.  My brother lives right off 97N on Bachman Valley Rd in Westminster.  PM me and we can set something up.

I attempted to clean the carbs on my 700 and at the same time I did valve adjustments. The puff out of the carbs I figured was a mistake on the valve adjustments, but now it's happening to my 500 so now I know it's carb based. Anyone have an idea on what this back fire through the carbs is?
