When im on a website that has the exploded veiw of parts http://www.partforyamaha.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/1/50/25817/1050/default.aspx sometimes it will have the same part listed twice because one is for Model X/Y and one for model V/W. how do I know what model my bike is.
By the way it is 1997 GS500E and I need a new Choke cable. part 19 on the link above.
maybe i am going crazy but i don't see any choke cable on that link. For something like that i would personally just go to a local dealership since the price difference isn't much and i think it is always good to support the local shop atleast for parts.
I had the same problem figuring out which model is mine. I got a GS500F 2006. But if you look at larger parts like the tank or fairings, you'll see that some models have slightly different patterns. Match the pattern to your bike. That's how I figured out mine was a K6 model.
I believe there is a list on the Wiki!

Your 97 is a V model, start here when looking for GS parts:

Suzuki always use the word "starter" when refering to the choke. ie starter cable = choke cable. Guess something got lost somewhere in the Japanese to English translation.

Thanks gsJack.
Where are you located? I have an extra choke cable you can have. Just pay shipping from 02816.
