Building my own muffler. Gonna be a 2 1/2 inch OD pipe (15 in long) with a homemade 1 inch OD baffle/placement ring lots of holes so forth and so on with will be screwed in from the frame side so i can remove it if need be. End of the pipe will have a slight outward angle so as to direct the heat from the back tire. SO....questions are.
1: does anyone know where to get black protective heat tape to wrap said muffler so i dont burn my leg every time i put my foot down
2: rejetting, necessary or no? if not sure how do i test whether it would be necessary?
3: any way to keep it all under the bike and blow it out the side in front of the tire w/o screwin stuff up?
Question 1 : heat wrap you can find on alot of websites that sell chopper, bobber, harley style bikes.
Quetion 2 : dont know, also thinkin bout makin my own pipes and wanted to know the answer
Question 3 : yea you can bend the metal to come out the side infront of the tire it'll be fine when standing still if its pointing away from the bike, and fine when riding because of the wind.
Alright so thanks to greg i found the tape and question 3 is pretty much taken care of....rejetting, anyone with the knowledge?
Look at the plugs - if looking lean, rejet-city. If (less likely, but who knows) looking rich, rejet city. If you are going to mess with the intake, do that too so you are not faced with rejetting twice.
Or size the tail of the muffler stock, and do all your adjustments with a soup can and a nail (hmm, personal bias - could be).
Search for custom muffler by Quicktaco. he did just about the same thing and I believe he had to rejet. I did a rejet before my bike was running. I had cut the muffler off right at the entrance of the pipe to the muffler. I cut it so that the angle of the pipe is behind the peg and has a bit of an outward slant. It sounds freaking awesome. It literally rumbles under your feet while standing, but it is just soooooo freaking loud when you ride it that way. I have a D&D slip on that I bought from another user here and it is really open. Loud too, only half as much as without.
Good luck.
Search Quickatoo on Google? or on here?
also, rich is the plugs are black right they may even look wet? and lean the plugs are white? and perfect theyre light brown, hint of red?
Yep. Quicktaco is on here. You can also search on Youtube under "GS500 Custom Exhaust" Not sure if his login is the same but he has a few videos of his black cafe racer with the exhaust.
Has anyone ever done dual exhaust one on each side? either straights or two pipes?
Yep. I believe Seamax has. You can search for him on here and I think find his information.

+1. Seamax's pipe setup is incredible. It keeps the standard H-pipe but then goes to two different pipes that run under the bike and end just before the back wheel I believe. Not sure whether there are mufflers or what kind but I'm sure it sounds awesome.
Seamax's bike. IIRC, little tiny carbon-fiber mufflers, with adonized tips.
