Title: The oil, she leaks!
Post by: J-Lo on October 10, 2003, 01:29:57 PM
Ok, here it is guys.  The oil seems to be leaking from the small crack between the left hand case [which I assume holds the gears], and the sprocket cover....is there a gasket in there?  We're dealing with a 15 month old bike here, with 14,000 Km's.

Any ideas?

Nope, no gasket there. Pull the sprocket cover off, and you should be able to see where it is actually coming from.

Does it only leak with the engine running? If so, then it is likely the engine side cover. Some of the bolts may have come loose - check them with a torque wrench only! If they are all tight, the gasket has failed somehow.

It is pretty simple to replace, other than the stock gaskets area Buddha Loves You to get off. You can even do it without draining the oil, if you lean the bike over 30 degrees or so, so the oil is on the other side.
