Title: CDI IGNITER TESTER
Post by: gregvhen on October 13, 2009, 06:04:27 PM
Alright so I found out, through reading my manual, that there is such thing as a suzuki Igniter tester.

Is there anyone on here that has one that I could barrow to make sure my igniter is the reason my bike wont start?

P.S. dont bother if your not in the U.S. shipping would be horrible.

Have u tried asking a Suzuki dealer - Haynes manual says dealer should have a tester, not available to the home mechanic ...

If I was close to u I'd let you try my ignitor, but too far ...

Depending on how adept u are with electronics u might figure out a way to test - http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?p=8016604

That's an automobile igniter but seems principle would be similar; maybe a smart person on this board could figure out a way for the gs500 unit.

That method applies to the Rectifier/Regulator.  Not the CDI

Ermm.... Why go to all the trouble????.....There are more ignitors in this world than testers so cant you borrow a replacement ignitor or get a used one on sale or return from a breakers that you KNOW works, then fit it to your bike and see what happens? Last used one I bought cost me a fiver with the promise of a refund if it didnt work. Much cheaper and easier than finding somone with a suitable tester...........or am I just thinking too hard  :icon_eek:

Very very very few breakers take returns on electrical parts.
The one I have built a huge rapport with will in my case and maybe 1-2 other people's cases allow us to bring the bike there and test them. If they dont see something smoking or smell something burning, and it does exactly what it did before swapping it then, OK you get a refund. Else you're SOL.

I have seen lots of crap burnt on bikes that I will never take a electrical item back if I sell it.

Cool.
