on the road, i usually run a few pounds less than whatever is on the side of the tire.   on the track, u can start there, and work your way down to see what feels right to you

I do alot of 2 up riding,  and seems to work fine for me      the way I see it, the MANUFACTURER of the tire probably knows what they are talking about

I usually go 2 psi higher unless it's a cold morning when I check the tire pressure. I dod this to compensate for higher pressure in a warm tire. Figuring it will come down when cold. But usually I follow the recommended pressure as it's before sun up when I head off to work sometimes, and other times it's after sundown.

Funny, the other day while at the gas station an Asian woman on a Moped was at the air station while I tanked up. When I came out she was still there. I wheeled my bike over to wait and she asked me how much air to put in her tires. Told me her husband had told her something about KPA. I looked at her tires to see what was stamped - 25psi - changed the auto reader to 25psi and pumped her tires for her. They were less than 20psi at the time. She said, they feel hard now... I pointed out where the tire tells you how much to put in and told her that's all I put in. She rode off happy.

I like the Suzuki recommended 33 psi front and 36 psi rear for everyday use for myself.

Pirelli suggests a min/max range in their guide:

GS500E, F 89-07
110/70-17 54H TL Sport Demon 130/70-17 62H TL Sport Demon
32/42psi front 36/42 psi rear

Avon suggests a little less in the front for the Roadriders on the GS500:

Front tyre
Roadrider
Pressure front: 2.0bar(29psi)
Front size: 110/70-17 54V
Rear tyre
Roadrider
Pressure rear: 2.5bar(36psi)
Rear size: 130/70-17 62V

I like this general guideline chart from Metzeler for quick reference:
