Just got my first bike 98 GS500E. Definetely fun little bike that I can hand off to the wife once I feel safe moving up to a bigger one.
Couple quick questions are it has a tendency to die if the clutch is held in while riding or at any time the RPMs are low unless the choke is out slightly any ideas of what I could do?
Next one is if anyone had a good link for some universal mirrors that would be able to get set up on the fairing?
I have already done a few little things to the bike.
OIL CHANGE, NEW SPARK PLUGS AND SOON TO BE WIRES, EMPTIED CARBS AND GAS TANK THE REFILLED
Does it die with the throttle closed and low rpm? It dies if you squeeze in the clutch while riding?
Your idle speed may not be adjusted correctly. That's adjusted by the little knob that sticks down between the carbs. You adjust with the engine warm (15+ min riding) and it should be about 1200-1300 rpm.
What do you mean by Petcock water reservoir?? There isn't any thing on the bike that should have water in it.
oh and one more thing WELCOME!
Pics please. Pics or it didn't happen....
Pics pics pics.

Welcome, and +1 for idle adjustment. Does it mainly do it when the bike is just getting warmed up, or does it get worse AS it warms up? If not the idle, I would still say something in the carbs. Does it idle okay when sitting still? What RPM? Should be just over 1k. And just to warn you, you better post some pictures. Seriously. :thumb:
Also as far as mirrors for the fairing you will def need to post pics so that we can know what kind of fairing you have since the 98 came naked.
Well finally got the idle adjustment to were I think it should be. Hasn't had a problem with dying since then. So now I get to move on and hopefully find some mirrors that don't stick out like a sore thumb. Thanks for the help.
The first pic seems to be the best one.

I think the fairing may be a little too flimsy to mount mirrors.... How about bar-end mirrors?
That was definetely what I was afraid of but don't want the mirrors to stick out that bad but not willing to ride without them
You got yerself there what they call a conundrum...
