why not use a file, and elongate the holes a little?  did it look weird on the bike or something?

the 89-00 tail light is a square light and the 01+ are more rounded  the cbr1100xx is swappable to the 01+ tail bikes but not the 89-00 bikes.

that makes sense then, looks like it would be nice on a 01 +  didnt think of that as I had a r6 light with my 04 tail

It did look ok on the 89 GS but I guess am used as to how the old square one looks and only flashy new part on a old bike was kinda a standing out ..

I figure it looks like from an CBR 600.

That being the case... we both think CBR... just the CC varies. Maybe they're interchangeable?

Mod the rest... yes yes... while you're not riding over the winter... mod the bike... then post pics. Oh yes. We want to see pics.

the cbr600 and the cbr1100xx are different tails.  I have done alot of looking when i was loking for a integrated tail light with blinkers and the cbr1100xx blackbird and the gs500 01+ use the same tail light.  I have posted about this tail light in the past but most people dont like to search they just ask new questions or buy parts that people tell them they will work on without checking the parts compatibility before buying.

man am riding all through winter,I don't know have a license to drive a car and don't know how to drive one either LOL......It doesn't get all that cold in Louisiana where I am ride to work 140 miles 3/4 days a week .The engine needs a overhaul, is burning oil (need to change spark plug every 500-1000miles)..so don't want to invest money in it ,It a reliable work horse so far though.....

You can just get a bike license in Louisiana without your car license? I thought all states were pretty standard as far as that goes. I believe I have a 89-2000 GS tail light around here if you're still looking for one.

Hey, just posted on this same subject on a different thread.  I was not aware that the blackbird tail light looked similar.  I have a tail light off a CBR600 F4i that we are planning to use on Kay's '95 GS.  It fit's in the stock rear bodywork with minimal modification.  Good luck!

I took the written test for cars and got the driving permit but have not taken the drive test....the DMV had to make lot of calls to give me the motorcycle license apparently they had not faced this situation before..

I live in GA and had my motorcycle license before I even got my learner's for a car. Actually just got my driver's license last week after having been riding for 18 months

Every state has their own rules, but I am almost sure the motorcycle license wihtout car licence is possible in most states. Do they know how to do it at the counter at the dmv you happen to go to on the day you have gone there with the clerk who is sitting there - whole different question.

Way back when ... 98/99 I figured a blackbird tail light could fit in the GS ... Instead of egging the bolt hole, I'd knock the rails into the right location. Cos the rails on the bike havs grommets in them.
Cool.

In my state in Australia you cannot get a motorcycle license Unless you have had a provision or open car license for 1 years. And the way the car system works means, you'll have been driving for two years before you can apply for a learners permit for a motorcycle.

AND, you must have held your Learners Permit for at least 6 months before you can get your Restricted license (restricted in engine capacity via a power to weight ration - nothing over 650 period and bikes below 650cc must be below 150kw per tonne or something like that). And while on the Learner's permit you are not allowed to ride unsupervised - must be supervised by someone who has a bike license whether parking lot riding or on the road. After 6 months you can sit the riding test practical (you have to do the theory to get the permit). Pass and you are issued the Retstricted License.

THEN, you must have had your Restricted Bike License for one year before you are allowed to go to an open bike license.

All to save the squids...
