Title: Finally sold my '95, new owner promptly wrecked it.
Post by: redhenracing2 on November 20, 2009, 10:23:49 PM
Yesterday around seven in the evening I had a guy come pick up my bike, paid cash, and took it home. He called me today to inform me that he laid it down, after not owning it for even 24 hours. He is a newbie to riding, it was the first time he had taken a bike out on the street, and he panicked in a confrontation with a truck at an intersection. Said that he was going '35', but I checked out the site and there is no way he was going that. 35 is the speed limit on that lonely, unpatrolled back road. So, of course he calls me to come fix it. Broken clutch lever, busted headlight, cracked tail plastic almost in half, dug the handlebars down into the bondo on the tank, effed up the mirror, and a few other things. He just needed me to come put on the new clutch lever and rig the headlights so he could get it home. I wound up spending three hours working on it, and then riding it to his house (which fortunately isn't far away). Sorry guys, no pics. It was just really sad to see my baby all beat up like that. It's kind of like being a server at a restaurant, and the woman you love coming in with another man for dinner, and having to serve them. It just kinda killed my day. And to think he wanted to use a new R6 as a starter bike . . . .

Man that is like having him date your sister, knock her up, and then ask you to help pay for it?!?!

I don't know if I could have helped him, lol.

Wow, man, that frustrates me too.  Your bike was probably my favorite I've seen so far on this site.  I liked it back when you had that Dr. Pepper theme going on.  That's a shame that guy had to come and bust it up like that.

whats the difference if he wrecks it of mods it? If he paid for it its now his baby not yours.  If you dont want your stuff modded or wrecked keep it.  When ever i sell something i look for it to never come back not look to see when they are doing to/with it.  Once I have my money for it you can do whatever you want mod it blow it up I dont care.  Now if you buy it break it and want to pay me to fix it, Ill gladdly take more of your money to fix it the way you want it.

Yeah, its not like it really affects me. I got my money for it, its his to do with as he pleases. The past few days though, I pull up to my driveway coming home from work, and immediately start freaking out thinking somebody stole my bike lol. Its hard to get used to not having it, but I just really needed the cash. At least Im out of debt now.

Just charge him for fixing it. Be fair, no question you'd beat the dealer by a mile ... so you're cool.
Yea maybe depressing ... but hey he has to learn.
Cool.

Yeah basically, I went and got the parts necessary and brought him the receipt. He rounded it up to the next ten dollar amount (a delivery charge lol) to pay me back for it. I didn't charge labor this time, because he is a friend of mine, but next time he will have to buy me lunch lol. I think he learned his lesson from this, and he is determined not to ride again until he gets 'adequate safety gear'. He was wearing his work t-shirt and some khaki pants, it tore up his legs and arms and ripped the pants to shreds, but nothing was broken luckily. He tried to play it off all macho by just throwing on a wrist brace, but I'm sure he's feeling it even worse today than yesterday.

theres no problem. i was just saying that if all the guy gives him for fixing it and riding back to his house for him is a rounding to nearest 10 bucks on a parts purchase, then that is very skeet. but its his friend so okay, i work for free for my friend alot too.

Bummer to hear he crashed your old bike buddy. It's hard to see the heart, soul & efforts  you put into the bike get busted up so quickly by someone w/hardly no bike skills.

I ride past the guys house that bought my old Triumph, I always look to see if the bike is sitting there. It never is, but it was just an apartment, so he could've just moved somewhere else. It is sad though. My dad's sportster 883 looks like a full size motorcycle in their garage again though. Those things look like mini bikes next to a even a 600cc sportbike.

Seriously, what is it with new GS500 owners in marietta, first it was that idiot BelfryExpress    and now the guy you sold yours to...

That's a shame.  I actually saw you out on your bike about a month or so ago.  Hard to miss with the green paint.  Definitely a cool bike.  I even tried mentioning it to you, but the traffic was a bit loud.
