Title: Fuel lines?
Post by: ACDNate on November 23, 2009, 08:59:23 AM
First of all who was the retard engineer who derived this particular fuel delivery setup??? Ok venting done.

Thanks to the how to page I now know the correct routing of the fuel lines and will check to make sure i have them correctly installed. I do have a question though that I couldn't answer with the provided pics here:
http://www.gstwin.com/fuel_hose_routing.htm (http://www.gstwin.com/fuel_hose_routing.htm)

The fuel lines on this particular bike are rather unusual (in my experience), they are clear really thick walled hose that seems really stiff for a motorcycle application. There's a black plastic shielding over the lines from the tank valve to the frame petcock. There is just barely enough length to get the hoses over the barbs if I lower the tank as I put them on.

Is this the stock or someones aftermarket add on hose?

I'm thinking I may go ahead and order some new hoses, or see if I can pick up some compatible hose locally. Anyone know the ID off hand?

Also how many of you are using clamps on the hoses? This bike has clamps already on it but in the past with other bikes I haven't used clamps...

Ok I think I may have answered one of my questions. On all the parts diagrams I can find it shows hose clamps, but then in parenthasis states (CA only).

So it looks like the hose clamps were a CA only thing. Anyone able to confirm?

The fuel hose routings are not the same for all years of GS500/E/F but that pic of Kerrys you linked should be ok for your 95.  The hoses cross on the 01-02 models, here's the whole picture:

I've used the oem hoses that came on the GS's with the oem spring type clamps for all of my 150k GS500/E miles and haven't had to replace any of them......yet.

I may not have needed them, but I put hose clips on just about all the hoses when I replaced mine. The outside diameter wasn't the same so I couldn't use the spring clamps, and even though the hoses were a tight fit, I didn't mind the extra work of the hose clamps just to make sure I didn't have any leaks.
