Title: Progressive Auto Insurance
Post by: ver4 on December 01, 2009, 02:48:37 PM
Does anyone have any comments about Progressive?

Background Info:  I have had Geico since I started driving at 16 and I'm 23 now.  I last had a speeding ticket in 2006, but it no longer counts towards the insurance.  Right now, with Geico I'm paying $120 a month and with Progressive I would be paying $70/month.

I need to make this decision, but I'm not too familiar with insurance companies.

Any advice will help.

Thanks.

I have progressive insurance for all my vehicles and its a similar story to yours, geico is double on the cars and then some on the bike.  I have a clean record now but didn't always and i have been happy with progressive, if my rates did go up it was never rediculous.  I have reached a happy point were all it does is go down now  :icon_lol:

I have progressive as well.. They have been great so far. Once I got rear ended. A progressive vehicle came right to the scene estimated the damage on the spot and cut me a check right there!

Well, I think I'm going to go with Progressive and cancel Geico.

Thanks for the help.

Also check w/ State Farm.  They're one of the few insurance companies that insure motorcycles by cc's, and not by style of bikes.  Progressive and Geico both quoted us for over $2000 a year for a 2008 Honda 1000RR, and State Farm is $400 a year with coverage taht's almost twice as good.  I carry only liability on my GS since it's a 1990, and it's a whopping $52/year!

I had Geico for years for my car.  When I got the GS they quoted four times the amount that Progressive gave me, so I switched everything to Progressive.  No problems except that they for some reason linked Jessie into my account.  As the rep said "Oh my garsh!  How could that happen!!  Wow, are you on good terms with him?!  What if he was, like, a bad boyfriend?"

I have progressive, but the only time I've talked to 'em was when I was just after I signed up.  They did have a real live person on the phone at 1 am though...

On a related note, what kind of coverage are you getting?  I have the basic most stripped down you can get, but I'm about the same age and in MD and I'm only like 170/year for my 04 and that's with my 5 pt speeding ticket...  Maybe they're worried about Jessie using his Baltimore Universal Key on it...

I have the basic coverage too.

Comprehensive - $500 deductible
Collision - $500 deductible

......and what not.  I don't know the specifics of the other stuff w/o looking at it and right now I'm being lazy.

Huh, my experience has been very different.  When I bought my Cayenne, procrappive quoted my $190/month w/$500 deductible while Geico quoted $70/month.  Progressive wouldn't even touch my Series III because it wasn't an American market car while Geico was right in line with Hagerty's price wise.

Pachman, I'm talking about car insurance not motorcycle insurance ,which I think is what you're referring to.  If not, then that's pretty cheap car insurance.

All I know is that I own a 2000 VW Golf and the price is $50 cheaper than Geico and the coverage seems better at Progressive.

I thought you were talking about bike insurance as well.  Either way, we have 3 bikes, 2 cars, 1 trailer, and homeowner's all thru State Farm and NO ONE could beat their prices on ANY of our policies....

Same boat as above.  My 'youth" record was not the best to say the least.  I have my vehicles and motorcycle insured through Progressive and I would never change.  My rates drop more and more every year.

Yup, Progressive Good Folks! Bike and Car pay less for both than I did for just the car on Esurance! Never get Esurance! :2guns:

Yup that would explain it...  :embarassed:

Now you have to explain why you're asking about car insurance on a motorcycle forum!  :icon_rolleyes:

and Mary esurance has a cartoon avatar that's been rule 34'd!!

My advice on insurance is to shop around every few of years or so.  Also, every insurance co. is different in every state for each person and their situation.  Progressive was best for me in Minnesota, but then State Farm was best in Michigan.  But now that I own a house, going through an agent and using Citizen's is best.

Get as many quotes as you can and sometimes you'll be surprised at what you find.  Like saving $50 a month!  Maybe more with someone else?

I went through all the major providers and amazingly Geico was second cheapest.  Nationwide and Allstate wanted to charge me more than $200 a month.  :flipoff:

Also, I put "Auto" in the topic name....not motorcycle.  :flipoff:

I wanted to get a bunch of opinions first.  I also posted on a gun forum I belong too, but I don't frequent that too much.

same here mine went up twice with progressive. good company but no reason for it. and i cannot afford it right now. so i had to let it lapse, and go  in search of another company

State farm rocks. Full coverage on the CBR954RR $256 a year, Full coverage on the CBR600F4i $135 year. Progressive was asking $2700 and Geico $3400 year for just the 954RR with the same coverage. State farm is a smidge higher on my truck and the wifes GT than progressive but the multiline discount with the homeowners policy makes up for it. Plus I like having a local agent I can walk into and discuss my insurance needs with.

FYI the GS500 was $52 year for full coverage. $12 year for liability with state farm. Progressives $240 year for full coverage on the GS.

I checked with progressive, and the price was $10 higher per month than nationwide
