where do i find the rules or guidelines that will make my bike fail an inspection based on frame modifications? for example cutting up the subframe and doing something custom. Live in MO and have looked on MOdot website, and MO dept. of revenue, but cant find anything on what is required and whats not allowed. I know it differs from state to state/country to country so please, I dont want 50 people replying "depends on where you live" just so they can act like they know what theyre talking about. Is there anyone on here from Missouri who has found the guidelines? Whats typical for those of you on here who have cut their frame and done something custom?

"inspection" in florida meant they walk out, have a smoke, and glance at your VIN.
AL was similar.
maybe your state is different.
Any custom chopper shops in your area? They'd probably know the rules (if any exist).

Missouri is going to be one of the lax states, methinks. I doubt they'll even check the VIN.
you may want to check with your insurance company while researching this as they my deny any claim on your bike if theys chopped.

again, i know it varies, but do you think it would matter, in most cases, if you only get liability?
Where do you want to cut your frame? If it's only the subframe it's not really suppose to change the spec of the bike.
Your best bet would be to go to one of the inspection stations, preferably the one u normally use, and get their take on it. After all, they are the ones that would definatly know.

Only problem i could see with asking the people at the inspection station is that the answer can vary based on who you ask there as they seem to have varied opinions atleast in NJ it is that way. Alot of whether or not it will pass inspection will probably also depend on how well the work is done. If it looks like a cheap chop job then they might just classify it unsafe but if it is does decently i would assume their shouldn't be any problems.
