what should i do to get the gas cap open? i tried unscrewing the Allen screws but couldn't get to the little locking arms. next i took a flat head screw driver and hit it in the key hole to see if that might work but of course it didn't work. so any ideas? please help my bike has been sitting on the side of my God mother's house since the middle of the year and i want to ride!
I have no idea, but it would make a great excuse to get a fancy keyless one when you're done. :D
Oh, I almost forgot...
I see your post count is 3. If noone said it already, welcome to GStwin and congratulations on your first posts!
you have to unlock that cap to remove it. If you don't have the old key then just ride to a lock smith with an allen set and have them pick the lock and then replace the cap. I had to do just that when I lost all my keys in one foul swoop :icon_lol: :icon_lol:
In case you don't know...
PICS!... or it didn't happen.

What year is it? Do the newer ones have a locking screw on the inside? I can just remove the entire gas cap off of my 92 just by removing the 3 screws and lifting it up.

you -have- to release the locking mechanism to remove the cap assembly. how i recall is it's a two peice deal-y-o, and the cap + locking mech goes down into the throat that is welded to the tank. the locking mech hooks on the lip of that throat... see pic.
shouldn't take more than 30 minutes and $50 for a locksmith.
good luck ! :)
