Title: Solvang motorcycle museum
Post by: Roadstergal on December 10, 2009, 09:51:02 AM
I've been a little busy - we had an offer on a house accepted, so our fun is going to go away for a couple of years.  But we did take a little road trip this Thanksgiving, and it involved a stop at the Solvang Motorcycle Museum.  It's a private collection, so don't be in a hurry; we kicked around the town for a while while waiting for the place to open.  Michael Jackson was here:

Finally, the motorcycle museum!  It's a personal collection, but a cool and diverse one.

I can't decide if it's ugly or cool - I think it's both.

Very cool, and the collection has a Britten, very rare. Theres only 10 Brittens that were ever built. The museum at Barber has one as well, I believe it's the one that won at Daytona.

A lot of great looking bikes. I bet that jawa 500 was the meanest looking thing around in the 60's, it still looks fast by todays standards.

That monkey clock is awesome!

It's a pretty awesome collection.  And yes, the Britten is one badass bike.  Apparently, he took it to a trackday before bringing it back.  I can't imagine riding that thing at a trackday; I'd be going 10 miles an hour, petrified of binning it.

I really like the other bike with the oil pan under it as well. Nothing quite like going to an art museum and seeing a beautiful painting fixed with a strip of duct tape right across the front.

Great pics!   I saw a Britten in a traveling collection "The Art of the Motorcycle" that stopped in Orlando a few years ago.   They also had a couple of Steve McQueen's bikes.   I can just wander around for hours looking at all those beautiful old rides!

Thanks for sharing!
