Title: Is this gear indicator correct for GS 500?

No, you have a cable driven speedometer.  There is hope, though.

From their website...  "This Gear Position Indicator will fit ALL motorcycles and vehicles which have electronic speedometer (either analog or digital readout). (For vehicles with cable driven speedometer, we will offer an optional speed sensor in 2010)"
