Well, I'm gonna sell it. It's been fun. A real good time, but I just can't keep it anymore. It needs too much work, and I can't justify fixing it up before my Fiat, which is rotting away a little more everyday.
So, January 12, 2010 a guy named Juan is gonna give me $2000 for my 1984 Chevrolet El Camino Conquista.
I will get my 1977 Fiat 124 Spider running and driving well, and then the rest will be put into the GS. Yup. Will be needing some GOOD camshafts for a pre "F" model, so if anyone reads this that has a good set, let me know. Also, some shocks that don't leak and still damp would be nice..... Thanks.

Well, my friend's '07 is a lot better than my '90. I would replace the springs with the Progressives and MAYBE install emulators, or I might just go up one weight in fork oil. I dunno..... Better post about that.
Haven't you heard Fiats can't be fixed-up? Since they came off the showroom floor as junk, no matter how much you fix them they remain junk. Over time they become rusty junk, which is where you are now. A Fiat makes a Cavalier seem like a Caddy. It's best use is target practice.

It wasn't junk whenn I got it. It ran just as good as my mom's LT-1 powered Fleetwood does now, which is as smooth as a Ferrari. It stopped as good as my GS, and handled like it was on rails. The ONLY problem with old Fiats is the rust issue. This car IS too far gone, but it was my first car. I spent almost every free hour in it. My stereo kicked A$$, and my girlfriend at the time, which was a size 3, a small in tops (don't know how she fit those fun bags in there) and 115lbs. LOVED it. It is sentimental to me. If it does rust into a pile. I will sweep it into a box and keep it in the closet. And the only reason the engine blew is because I turned into a parking lot too quickly, bottomed out the front end and smashed the oil pan. The oil pick-up tube was closed off and I drove it home that way. Next thing you know, #2 connecting rod spits out the right side. It would have happened to ANY car, so please do not knock Fiat. I would take it over any American car aside from the BOSS 429 Mustang anyday.

I had a car (and GF) like that once...it was an '89 Ford Tempo. I would have set it on fire and rolled it down a hill with the ex in it.

I still have my first car rotting away in my yard. I probably should have gotten rid of it years ago when it was in better shape. I still have it in the back of my mind that I will fix it up one day. I hope you have better follow through than I do :thumb:

My uncle had a thing for Fiats when he was in the Army in the '70's. He has spent the last 30 years cursing their existence. He couldn't keep it running. Every time it rained, he walked. The wipers kept quitting too but it didn't really matter since it wouldn't run in the rain anyway. Then it promptly rusted-out. My father just rolls his eyes and says "I told him not to buy it in the first place."
The only thing that has more expensive parts than a foreign sports car is an old foreign sports car. Add-in the Swiss cheese body and iffy electrics and it's not a good candidate for restoration. I went through the same thing with a red 1968 MG Midget back in the '80s. I won't bore you to death with the details. Suffice it to say I won't do it again. Too much money, too little driving. I worked on that car more than any car I ever owned. That car did draw women like ants to sugar, though.
But if you love it, you love it. I understand. Spyders are beautiful little cars, and you might have the last one!
