Title: WTB GS500E Carbs
Post by: ACDNate on December 19, 2009, 04:01:46 PM
Pulled the carbs out today to clean and re-jet. All kinds of issues with these carbs, I'm amazed it even ran when I test rode it.  :technical: The parts list is starting to get north of the average price of a used set.

Anyone have a decent set of carbs laying around? Found a set on FleaBay but thought I'd rather buy from a member here instead of from a complete stranger.

They don't have to be pristine, just complete and without many broken parts pieces. If you got something missing a few bits and pieces let me know, maybe between my set and yours I can make a complete set.

Thanks!

Nate

unless the carb bodies and diaphrams are junk i dont see how they could cost more to fix then buying used.

These carbs are in pretty sad shape. Both Diaphragm caps need replaced. One of them I might be able to epoxy to repair, but I'd never trust it. The crack on it is along the outer side of one screw slot.

One diaphragm has a small tear. Both bowl gaskets need replaced.

There is a crack in the sleeve that houses the mixture screw on one of the carbs. Can't see very well how far down it goes and if it will allow air to seep in or fuel to seep out.

If the crack isn't an issue, I'm still looking at around $70 + shipping for parts. Found a set of carbs for $70+ shipping on Ebay...

I likely will, didnt realize these carbs were going that high. In the past I've bought banks of 4  carbs for old Honda's for $100-125. Also I've seen carb sets for 1200 Bandits in the $125-150 range.

I dunno B12, but kat 600 carbs are the closest to the GS carbs, and I would recomend you get GS carbs cos the cracked mix screw can be DOA for it.
Kat carbs are in fact body swap candidates, but really that is more work than you should need to do ... just get GS carbs and get those sorted right.
Cool.
