My plans, hmmm, getting the snow stopped would be good. over Christmas I'll be cooking for six meat eaters and two vegatarians and kicking the crap out of my now limited stocks of Rioja Gran Reserva. I've got a couple of bottles of 1999 and 2002 but I'm looking forward to the 2005 which was a great year for just about all European reds.

If I loose my marbles completely I might partake in this local tradition...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/kent/hi/people_and_places/history/newsid_8408000/8408429.stm

Seriously i'm all for preseving tradition but I draw the line at living in a museum - this looks pretty cranky to me!

All the best to one and all for the feast of Yule, the coming of the light and all that. Best wishes especially to Yama and anyone else with health concerns for themselves or family. Let's hope for a better new year huh ....

The 16-pound cat will wake me up by walking across me in bed, as usual, expecting food.  I will spend most of the day on the phone, talking with my widely-scattered friends and family.   Probably having dinner at friends' house.  I'll  take the bike out for a chilly but sunny morning ride along the coast, and then a "fast" ride on I-95, which is almost deserted on Christmas morning!  (Insert evil laugh here)

Merry Christmas to all!   O0

Merry Christmas guys!  Waiting to hear back from Porkchop but there has been talk of another GS meet up the weekend after Christmas.  Details will be posted in another thread for those in the Baltimore/D.C. area.  Hope you have a great New Years!

Christmas eve I have to go to midnight mass with the new in-laws this year.

Christmas day I have christmas X 3 (mom, dad, then in-laws) which is wayyy too hectic imo.

That night all of my old friends typically meet up and have a few drinks at the bar since we are all back in town
Then on the 26th @ 10am me and the wife are off on our honeymoon to Thailand for 3 weeks!  :woohoo:

+1 for midnight mass. we're not the right denomination, but sure do enjoy it. other than that, food, play, and home time.

Merry Christmas to all at GSTwin.com!  And a Happy New Year as well!

When you have 3 grown kids and your parents never travel your Christmas plans don't change.  Visit the kids, visit your parents, hopefully together so it's easier!

I gotta admit I love and hate Christmas at the same time.  This time of year I think of everything I have in my life with a new year in front of me (with another riding season coming!) and I'm thankful for that, but it also reminds me of what I don't have.  Christmas displays in October DON'T HELP.  I wish Christmas was more like Thanksgiving.  I think Christmas, as we celebrate it in this country, is for kids, and I will NEVER go into debt to pay for Christmas, but it ain't easy.

I can't tell you how much I want to smash the front window of my local Lexus dealer every time I see the commercial they run every December urging me to buy a new Lexus for someone I love.  I can't afford a new Accord.  I guess in this materialistic society that makes me a loser.  I had simple beginnings and I don't mind having a simple lifestyle.  It seems natural to me and I get a kick out of being thrifty to a certain extent, like my GS for instance.  Just don't rub my nose in it, Madison Avenue assholes!  I can tell you this.. if I ever have the cash for a new luxury car it sure as hell ISN'T GOING TO BE A LEXUS!!

In terms of material things I did rather well. Maggie and I also got a year's membership to English Heritage which gives us free admission to over 400 historic sites like Stonehenge, Palaces and Castles etc - so that's the summer weekends sorted out!
Best of all, I got to cook and entertain loads of people who really appreciated it.

Well went to Christmas eve service. Us Baptist are getting lazy I think. Service lasted 27 minutes! It took me longer to get dressed than the service did!
I also had a sinus infection that aggravated everything and ended up spending the weekend in the hospital :(
But present wise I made off like a bandit. PS3 tickets to the Champs Bowl go canes! And several giftcards as well as my friend's famous pecan pies from New Hampshire. YUM.
I really do enjoy this time of year so many friends to spend time with and they serve as a reminder how blessed I really am. I also take the time to thank God for the one gift that really mattered 2000 years ago. His birth split time in two and changed the world. Pretty amazing for a man who never traveled more than 200 miles from his home. Rejoice and remember the reason for this season!
