this my first bike and i ended up messing it up by forgetting to check the oil i open the top half or the engine and found one of the rods loosed and the bearing\ shaved if the crank is not messed up is the engine still worth fixing i've been trying to find a used engine for less than 600 but no luck can anyone help out plus i got down to the bottom and cant split the case and info that can help get my bike on the raod would be appreciated thanks

ok i see that i need another crankshaft i figured that if i can one in good condition i would be able to fix my bike before feb this is my commuter bike and saves me alot of money what i use in one month on my bike i send in 4 days in my family suv so if anyone can help find a cheap one i would be grateful
first off welcome to the board! and very sorry to hear your loss
if all it needs is bearings then I would say to fix it. they're cheap. if it needs new rings and an over bore due to scored cylinder walls then you could either get a cheap used motor or get some over bore pistons and redo the whole engine for performance. the suzuki over bore pistons are 0.030" over and would give a slight bump in displacement and compression. on the other hand a good used engine is probably cheaper. but if it needs a new crank i would replace the engine, also if you had no oil the cams might be shot. I have never done either so I cant give you any info on procedures.
well i found that the left hand rod was really loose i grabed one piston and it didn't move and they other did i look down and can see the screws loose which i think cause my bearing to wear out really bad the cyliner wall are in great shape to my surprize so the only problem is that i cant get the case split i put up some pic in a bit and thanks for the info

Also check eBay, and Craigslist.org every day.
You could also call Junkyards in your area and ask them if they have any GS500 engine in stock.
With little patience, I am sure you will find used engine in good condition for under $500.

I had a similar situation once, but I think instead of those bolts coming loose and that causing things to go bad, I think your bearing and crankshaft wore themselves out, and the fact that the crankshaft is now thinner and rattling around, then bolts probably worked themselves loose. I doubt the damage happened because the bolts came loose first.
Thank god for warranties, because I would've paid quite a bit for that one!
thanks for the info now my problem is that there is a bracket on the trans side that i cant get off with a philips screwdriver i tried but stipred them and info on what i can do to get them off would be helpful i think thats all i need to split the case

try using Vice Grips to get the screws out.
Or you can use a dremel to cut a slot in the screw head, and then use flat head screwdriver to get them out.

It depends what kind of shape it's in. If it still looks like a screw head, but your screwdriver won't drip you could try that impact driver. If no screwdriver is going to fit, I'd second the vice grips. Otherwise, you're going to have to drill a small hole and try something like this to get it out....

If it's not a flat head screw, you can drill or grind the head of the screw until it is gone. Remove the part, then grab what is left of the screw with pliers and unscrew to remove.
