lol i jst read the gs500 owners manual and it says DO NOT USE any petrol that has more then 5% methanol in them and it says something bout ur bike being wrekced.... I HAVE once filled up 2 liters of E10 Petrol b4 which is 10% ethanoll.... has this already harmed my bike??? if so in which way and are ther ways to clean / repair them? =(
I stumbled across that too, then remembered methanol and ethanol are indeed two different things. E10 has ethanol not methanol
i c :cookoo: :technical: :2guns:  thanks xD
Right, methanol causes blindness and even death.
Ethanol just causes you to get drunk.
So yes dont drink and drive.
Cool.
Buddha.
ie. stop farting in your gas tank.
Yeah....there's a pretty big difference between methanol and ethanol. Both have a different number of Carbon molecules (ie. methanol has 1 Carbon and ethanol has 2 Carbon, different boiling points and melting points, etc.
And for sure it doesn't hurt your bike.
Here down south in Brazil we use 24~27% of ethanol mixed with gas, and it runs perfect! With a crappy mileage, but runs ok!
If you're talking about the Owner's Manual I've made available as a PDF, you'll see on section 3.2 (page 30) it talks about Ethanol at 10% and Methanol at 5% (if the methanol contains co-solvents and corrosion inhibitors) otherwise Fuel System Damage may occur.
And while we're on this...
Disregarding the argument about Standard vs Premium, *I* use premium where I can. Anyway. The most convenient place for me to fill up was at a 7/11 gas station. Suddenly they removed their premium and replaced it with E10. When I asked the attendant said, "It's the same as premium, just check out Shell's website." So I switched to BP - a little further to travel but still on my way to work. Since using BP Premium I noticed a marked improvement in mileage, though haven't tried BP Standard. That will be after the next couple of fills as I had to use 7/11 standard early one morning (only one open at that time) so my mileage went down immediately and now wait for the 7/11 gas to be diluted with the good gas.
As a curiosity, has anyone else noticed different performance based on which Brand of gas used?
Michael
Yes. Over the years citgo was worst and mobil or chevron the best. At least in Florida.

I see around a 5 - 6 mpg drop when I use fuel with ethanol. but there is only 1 gas station near me that has fuel without ethanol
