Title: unexplained bike damage
Post by: manoj on December 25, 2009, 12:09:41 PM
last night the wind speed was at max 20mph,I had the bike cover on with bike on side -stand.My roomie found the bike fallen on side late night, could the raincover could have acted like a parasail and caused the bike to fall at such low wind speed .I had secured the cover to side stand and the bike had fallen to the other side and cracked the stator cover.

Ans does anyone have the stator cover for sale

Manoj

Hi,pretty sure wind speed would need to be atleast 70 to do that, and that would be freakish. The only time i`ve experienced something similiar,i lived next to a pub and a drunk sat on my bike the stand flicked up he fell off and smashed his own knee cap.Bike was ok but knee cap never heals...OTT Justice.

No I have worried at that 20 mph or so that a cover will pull the bike ... definetly possible ... Especially when there could have been a gust.

Cool.

if your bike fell on the right side, that would be the signal generator cover.  and if the cover caught the wind, it would be more than enough to pull the bike over

I had a badly cracked cover on my '97 when I bought it.   It's not a "huge" problem, but you will want to replace it.   New ones aren't too godawful expensive from the stealership.

mine has been missing the sticker over the big hole in the middle of the cover for around 2 years, and has seen many rainy days, and a few snowy ones too, without any problems so far

Round billet cover $35 shipped ... pics here -

Water wont be an issue, but the next drop could smash the trigger coils easier. That is $$$

Bolts etc included.

Cool.

Is your cover stronger than stock?

It's not hard for this bike to roll off its sidestand if you leave it in neutral, but then it falls on the left side.
