Just out of curiosity: what will your next bike, after the GS500, likely be?
2004 Yamaha FZ6
I'm planning on picking one up sometime around May/June 2004 if all goes well.
SV650S probably.. though my father thinks I should get that new Aprilla!
Undecided:
1997-up YZF600r
1999-01 SV650
1996-up CBR F3
Trying to decide between a Super Hawk, TL-R or maybe a Gixxer 1K but they are still pretty expensive. The RC-51 is very appealing as well and if I can find one that isn't way too expensive or been wheelied to death, then that will most certainly be my new bike.
A Hayubasa!

just kidding...

Byt no YZF, I'd add the TL/S to the list and make that 91 or 92 and up F2, and ofcourse the V-rod for my cruiser itch.
As soon as they can be had in good shape for $1 a cc...
Cool.
Srinath.
i would like a sports tourer like teh honda vfr (i dont think i want a pure sports bike crotch rocket). Like a Honda Silverwing scooter or a suzuki burgman 650 and maybe a cruiser like the honda shadow.
Jeezus, Wrencher ... don't fall in love with dangerous bikes or anything! Ever ridden a liter Gixxer or an RC51? I have never Feared the Reaper nearly so much as when I rode the big Gix ... 1/32" of turn on that throttle and the thing absolutely snarls forward. Kind of like the feeling those magicians in Vegas who trained tigers and got bitten by one last week must have had. I shudder to think what would happen on the GSXR if, for example, you absent mindedly mishandled the clutch by not concentrating for a moment. On a Harley or GS, that's absolutely no big deal as the bike will just stall or whatever. On the Gix, yikes, I can't even imagine it ...
BMW R 1150 R Edition 80 something about that fugly thing calls to me.
Yes, I have ridden all of the bikes on that list except for the TL-R.
The bikes them selves are not dangerous unless they are in poor mechanical condition. They only become dangerous when matched with an opperator that can't handle them. An RC-51 in the hands of a capable rider is no more dangerous than the GS-500 in the hands of an inexperienced rider.
If I were buying it this month, it'd probably be a Honda Interceptor (VFR) or Triumph Sprint ST. I have the most fun on 100+ mile rides, and I'd love to be able to make them even longer.
I think either an SV650S or a FZ6. Depends on which one I find used Cheeper. I like their look and the fact that they can goooo!!! :)
I probably wont be getting a new/another one for awhile maybe end of next summer or the summer after that. Im having fun on the GS!!
vfr, sv650/1000 or honda cb600/919
gsx 1400 :thumb:
I am most definitely undecided. I really like the new FZ6, though I'm not much of a yamaha fan. I was also looking at '01-'03 Gixxer 600 or 750, or a prev-gen ZX-6 or 7. I just need to test ride as many as I can when I get home. Of course, after not being on one for a year, I'm gonna have to ride the GS like crazy and get back into it. I am also going to take a racing school when I get home. Either FastTrack Riders or Keith Code's CSS. :thumb:
HONDA 919!!!!! :) :) :)
98-01 VFR 800 most likely (and keeping the GS for city/tight roads/race track).
my next bike will be a GSXR1000
I'll get it next fall
I have been looking at the 04' Honda RC51's and the 04' Buell Firebolt XB12R's. Either way I want a big Vtwin.
Something subdued like a Dodge Tomahawk... 500HP for $550,000... maybe I should get two.
If I stay in the US, then maybe a Yamaha TZ 125 or Honda RS 125.
And a pick-up truck.
If I go abroad again, then it'll be a VFR400 or maybe a Yamaha FZR 400 3TJ.
And maybe a CB125 for in-town errands.
Adam
What about the V-Strom 650? Maybe not the best looking bike, but should be a nice engine, adjustable fairing, maybe factory hard bags. Seems to have the makings of a nice sport tourer w/o the price of BMWs,Hondas and Yamahas.
Another GS500.
Something old, heavy, and slow-like me. Honda CB750.
J.
HEY !!!!!!!
HOW CAN YOU FORGET THE ONE........
THE ONLY .........>>>>>>>>> Yamaha XJR 1300
I was actually gonna buy this, but thought I should crash and burn on its little brother, the GS500.
Anyone else love this bike, plssss tell me about it.
One more thing, I think the XJR is not available in US, only in Europe and AUstralia. So ppl missing out in US.
Search for the XJR1300 on the web, YOU'LL LOVE IT
sv100s for me
in my dreams....

Wrencher, so you want an RC51 hey?
Well I rode my friends... Let me tellyou this. It doesnt Your either going so stupidly fast it hurts, or slow. Nothign in between. God damn so fun!!!
AS for me, I currently have a thread debating between a gixxer 750, and SV650. Either of those come this december when I trade in the 2002 GS500 with only 6000km. I just need more gusto!!!
Honda CB750 Nighthawk. Textbook "next bike" for my tastes and needs.
Some 600cc SportBike. F4, R6, GSXR600, YZF600, ZX6R, ZZR600. Dunno yet.
Basicly looking for a liter v-twin to replace my Buell that was stolen. The Super Hawk and the RC-51 are very similar mills with radically different frames. The Super Hawk isn't a particularly laid back bike and isn't overly comfy for those 100+ mile trips, I suspect that its better than its big sister for the medium to longish hauls.
I love the look of the FZ6. Guess I will see after the January show in NYC.
Wayne
I will keep my GS and buy a beginner sport tourer. A YZF600, ZZR600, or perhaps the new FZ6. I don't want to much HP. I would like to increase gradually. Maybe I should get the SV650. Any other suggestions?

nextBike = (rand() ? "2004 Yamaha FZ6" : "2004 Honda 599");
Like 'em naked and not-so-fast ;)
Pablo has impecabble taste. I think realisticly its the SV for me, but damn, would an Aprill ever do nicely!!!
To everyone wanting the RC51... Get it, you wont regret it.
the gix 1k scares the s%^t outta me, rode my friends 03 an :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o on that bike, no room for error

if honda ever figured out the overheating issue with the 51, id look at them too. mmi instructor had one, but he rode it all the time without the lower fairings on. it kept over heating. something about the radiator design. :( :thumb:
just got this bike, but I would most likely make a big step up,
like a pretty new bike, but still a smallish bike(under 750cc)
either Suzuki or Honda, R6 would be nice though
or if I am rolling in Dough
Aprilla, Ducati, or Buell
SV 650, no fairing with that deep v-twin rumble, you gotta love it.
This is kinda sad, but I am considering a Katana. I think its combo of reasonable sporting intentions and touring capability would be quite nice...
I am startingt o sound 45 rather than 19. That aint good

No kidding   :nana: :nana: Thought you were gonna look at a Duc.???? I want a moto guzzi or a duc for my next bike. Not sure which model yet. Have to be able to play with my GS for awhile.
jtenright, just for the record you might want to check the prices of the Buells before putting them in a diffrent price category than an R6.

If you love the sound of a V, go for a duc.

Ah, the Ducatti...
That is ideal, but the repair bills are way beyond what I could afford as a student. I think when I graduate in 2 years it will be my gift to myself.
V-Strom 650 or the FZ6...both are do-anything go-anywhere all around sport/tour/commute bikes...both look to be comfortable, plenty of power, affordable, lots of aftermarket, both in the same $$ ballpark. 1st choice right now is the FZ, but it may come down to the $ deal.
Triumph Bonneville T100 for the street, and probably a used Aprilia RS 250 to play with on the track.
Hey..what wrong with 45 :guns: :nana:
Wayne
As I'm not in the US, I might just get that fully faired GS500 everyone talked about. I also like the look of the V-Strom 650 (or the 1000 if the budget will stretch that far).

Can't remember.   ;)
A couple of you guys mentioned sound. I absolutely fell in love with the sound of Triumph triples  ... I bought a Sprint ST; you can get a slightly different version of the same motor in a Daytona or the really really cool-looking Speed Triple (only reason I didn't get a Speed Triple was that I wanted some wind protection). I put the Triumph race can on there and the thing positively bellows ... sounds like a big V-twin crossbred with a small I4, on crack. Really inSANE howl. I'm very happy so far; compared to the old GS it is glassy smooth and blistering fast to boot.
I dont want a Ducati because they cost a fortune to get and to maintain and I dont really like the looks that well. SV 650, or that new Yamaha 600 is sweet too.
I think a Honda VFR or a Bandit 1200S would be nice for a next bike. I ride a lot of highway miles + commuting a lot so I need a bike that's comfortable at high speeds. It also shouldn't be too wide because I lanesplit almost on a daily basis.
HONDA RUNE!!!
THe most bad ass looking stock bike around. If only it had a 225 width rear tire! It reminds me of like an late 60's Lincoln Continental witht he suicide doors, but slammed, and chopped. What a sick bike
O.K., I have to confess...my next bike may be...a pocket bike!
Next bike at this point most likely another GS500 to replace the one stolen. I am keeping my options open even though I loved my GS500. I would like to do some serious looking before getting another bike. Iif anyone has any ideas I would like to hear them. Here is the criteria........
I am NOT an experienced rider
I like the naked bikes
I have short legs (I am only 5'3")
Thanks for any and all help.
Unfortanatly, you happen to live in the US so your choice of newbie freindly models is very limited. I used to have a knighthawk 250 and it was okay and would make a good learner but the GS will keep you entertained much longer.
GSX 600
or CBR 600 F4i
are my latest loves,
but gonna keep the GS for at least 2 years
Low mileage 750 Nighhawk or VX800. Or maybe just trick-out the ol' GS500.
CBR-1000 Would also be nice.... seems indestructible and is also nice on the holidays. I would travel as far as I could through Germany and maintain high cruising speeds.
either an SV650 or that new 599 from honda. That thing is the shizz.
Quote from: alerbaugheither an SV650 or that new 599 from honda. That thing is the shizz.
I got really excited when I heard about the 599 because I am in lust with the 919. Then I saw the $7100 price tag. For $200 more you can get a Bandit 1200.

For 500 less, you can get the new semi-naked Yamaha with a variant of the current generation R6 engine. The 599 has the CBR F3 engine, not the F4i. The yamaha has a trick underseat exhaust, too, and a nice fairing (in the US). That may be my next ride (VStrom 650 also looks good)
I am puting very serious thought into getting the new 04 R1 in March. Damn sexy, shaZam! loads of power, and it will fit me. (6'2" 230lbs)
Or I am maybe looking an older Triumph Daytona. Bunches cheaper, and still damn sexy.
The realistic list...
In order of lust:
VFR 750/800. Loooove the sound of the v-fours....
VTR1000. See above, but insert "v-twins"
A newer GS500 here in the states to replace the one slowly rusting in a garage in NZ.
I have the ZR for touring, so I'm looking for something less, err, vanilla.
The 04 R1 looks pretty tasty. I like the thought of having 180 hp to toy with.
Not sure what I'm going to do with my 996 yet.
I could sell it. Trade it in on the R1. Or keep it and make it into a motogp lookalike. Checkout www.qbcarbon.com
One things for sure though. I will always have a GS500 to ride as well.
:thumb:
next bike i need the following:
1. comfort
2. decent pep (more so then GS)
3. pretty decent handling
4. 4 cyl WOO!
5. reliablity
6. naked looks
Nighthawk CB750
best blend between sport nd cruiser i can find
-ash
Something cheap  There's a nice VX800 I can get for $1500, so could do an even-up trade!
But really, the only problem I have with the GS is that it's fun up-to about 65mph. Past 72mph and it bounces around. If I want an enjoyable commute on the freeway, I have to stay in the right lane (seems less safe) or ride 75+ mph. Maybe it just needs a Spec2 windscreen and some cinderblocks to hold it down :) . Jack, it sounds like you ride around the country a bit... do you feel like a ping-pong ball on the freeway, or just keep to the 65mph. highways?
I have a Kat 750 that I am working on so that will be my next bike. After that, I would either do some kind of streetfighter project err maybe restore an older bike ... a friend of mine has a '73 GT750 which could be an interesting (not exhilerating) ride.
my next bike is most likely going to be built by me. Staring with a rigid 250 tire drag style frame and a big bore s&s engine. Completely custom.
really want a chopper to crusie on and keep my buell and my GS for the town and curvies 8)
Noticing a trend here....
twin cylinder ohhhh what a beautiful sound :thumb:

BMW F650
BMW 1150R
Why would you want anything else?
2001 YZF-R6, Micron Pipe, Stage1 Jet Kit installed, Gear-indicator, Fender-eliminator, flush front signals, a sweet little package that will soon be mine if the guy accepts my offer (which is less of an offer and more of an insult  :o :P ) Oh well, maybe if I save up my pennies it will still the there in the spring. But the R6 is an awesome bike... light and nimble with enough power to last me for years to come, and its riding position was very agreable for my 6'3" frame... much better than the Gixxer. I think I'm falling in love with the R6.
500F
It will give me the excuse to REALLY throw down on my '02 with the mods.
the only reason I wouldn't get to yamaha's FZ6 is cause that fairing cost bookoos in insurance and at only 17 money is always a problem. I can barely afford gas for my car so I ride when it's 30- degrees. Don't get me wrong, its a bad azz bike and I love the underseat exhaust but it's just the cash.
allready got it...2002 Harley Davidson FLSTFI Fatboy
1. If I hit the jackpot..this (http://www.bikez.com/bike/20021/index.jpg)
2. If I win the lottery, Triumph Speed Triple
3. Reality bites, Honda VFR800.... ;)
Really want a ZRX-1200 or even an older 1100. Great naked bike looks, fat comfy seat, hang on acceleration and small bike handeling. Yummy.
Now I just gotta convince my wife.
Well, I was looking at the Brevetta 750's. I really like how it looks. But then I noticed how small they are. So I stick to my GS until I find something else.
-Anti
Maybe a Honda Africa Twin would also be nice, or a Yamaha Super Tenere. Allroads are good for commuting and they are much tougher than other bikes.
They don't have a lot of power but I can't use that anyway. On my daily commute to school I have 2 choices: through the city: 10 km, 2 speed camera's. Option 2:over the ring, (100 km/h speedlimit) 23 km, 4 speedcameras. And regularly there are extra camera's hidden at places where averyone rides fast (and it's not unsafe to ride fast there).
With an allroad I could also sneak past traffic jam areas by riding over the grass or sneak a couple of m over de pedestrian walk. Speedbumps are easy to take, but this isn't a problem for the GS either, you can take them at high speed if you want to.
An Allroad is also better equipped to cope with the ever decreasing road quality of Dutch roads. Every year there are more potholes and more dirt on the road.
Im thinken about gettin a Harley Davidson Sportster or an SV 650 neked, probley the Harley cause I like the crusin style a little better.

Why is the Speed Triple out of your price range, but the VFR800 isn't? Triumph recently lowered prices (again) on the Speed Triple and the VFR costs $10k new (11k with ABS). Triumph lists the price of the Speed Triple at $8,890 and the SprintSt (sport tourer) at 10,300 - and this now comes with free hard bags (a 1000 option on the Interceptor).

I'm looking at Honda's new 599 coming out this year, but not looking to buy for a year +. Naked bike look (my preference) with a MSRP of less that 8K...right up my alley.
Since I have a street 2000 TL1000R and a race '91 GS500, the only interest I have is getting another SV for the track. Had to sell my race LWT '02 SV. :x Damn that was a sweet ride! ....Unless I get another TLR for the track. ;)
I bet the V-Max's will be cheap soon. At least I am hoping. I will always have my twin for the twisties and flipping between cars but a V-max would kick but on the hi-ways.

yea. theres a guy in a group i ride with has the 1200 and is crazy on it. the bad thing is, this guy ways maybe 350 pounds. not trying to be mean but when he rides it, it looks like a monkey screwing a football. but he swears up and down that its the most comfortable sport bike he's ever rode.

Well, i gusee I still have to factor in the overall cost of ownership (maintenance, parts etc) and insurance nitty gritties. :dunno:
I currently have my SV650 which I love, and really dont feel like I need anything else, but maybe someday I might want:
Liter bike: R1 or Z1000.
Or maybe the new R6 brother with the half fairing.
But, I think for now I'll just stick with my SV, cause it's a blast. Or I might sell it and get another one in the Dark metallic red. Mmmmm.

:?
I am quite happy with my YZF600R, just bought some GIVI side cases for it (now I have to figure out a mount for them). I've considered getting either a FZ6 or a DL650, but neither of them are really any better than the YZF, so I can't justify parting with it.
After flirting with a Guzzi Breva 750, 'Lita is going to get a new "F" model GS as soon as they come out and we can
find a buyer for her '00.

the rc8 or the duke. the duke is one of the most badass bikes i have ever seen. i read in cycle world that when you rode the duke it felt very thin short and flickable. have they gave specs on it yet. like hp torque and most importantley the price? i would love to have one of them badboys.
