Title: Had to buy a new swing arm...
Post by: sveach on January 02, 2010, 06:51:07 PM
So I made a thread this summer saying that I had snapped my chain. Well...I spent a few hours today tearing down the back end and decided it was defintely time to buy a new swingarm. Pic:

Found a 2007 swingarm (same year as mine) for $50 shipped on Ebay...so I jumped on it.

Just wanted to share pics! I learned my lesson and definitely will ALWAYS be cleaning my chain and taking care of it.

Oh yeah. Wish I had gotten a picture of the castle nut. To tighten it down to where it needed to be, it was so far past the holes for the pin that the pin doesn't hold the nut at all. Maybe I'll get a pic tomorrow (bike is in my parent's basement)

If I recall werase had a swingarm for 20 bucks, I have 1-2 lying about ... cant find anything ... so 50 isn't a great deal, but well you got a 100% match I guess so its worth it.
Anyway your swingarm was fine too ... rectangular steel tubing is gorilla strong ... no sense fixing stuff that's not ever going to give up on you.
I know someone who cut a slip in the swingarm length wise and squished it and welded that narrower but deeper one where they cut it ... to run a wider tire.
Cool.

Well, the bigger problem for me was that I can't adjust the tire much. The adjuster won't go back because it's dented in there. And if you look carefully, the adjuster won't come out (towards the end) because of a dent there. And it IS strong as hell. I couldn't bend out the dent at all with pliers. But I didn't spend much time on it.

I thought $50 was a good deal, the first 5-6 I looked at were $100 or so. Guess next time I'll post here first!

Now what I really want, is a replacement for those damned flimsy adjusters. Are there any ready made products that fit?

How about a stock exhaust? I don't need the headers....but if someone has a cut off stock muffler with a couple inches of piping, I could definitely use that. Bike is straight piped now and it's just obnoxious in the mornings.

I dont think you would ruin the adjusters without some else like a chain breaking first.
Cool.

I'll take it!!  Sending you a PM. Not in that much of a hurry. It's snowy and icy here and I won't be riding for another 2-3 months at least.
