Title: Earthquake in Humboldt!
Post by: bombadillo on January 10, 2010, 01:37:22 PM

WOW, just had a 6.5 earthquake while in Costco!!!!
That was a pretty nutty experience, things were going all over the place, people were panicking and nobody knew what to do. Fortunately I remembered all of our procedures and getting people out of the building safely is key. Liquor is pretty bad, some big things came down and it was crazy but all in all wasn't too bad. A ceiling came down in a local Winco and it was crazy there and over half our town is out of power. I'm typing this from my mother in law's computer now. Wish us luck!

I just got back from 4+ hours of cleanup at Costco and it was BAD. Lots of merchandise fell and I got stuck in the wine aisle cleaning it up. We had to reload everything in the cooler and the freezer, and power was out so it was in the dark with forklifts running around with flashlights, and loading things into refrigerator trucks. Some of the lights hanging actually came down and nearly hit some people in the store. We had hundreds of carts throughout the store full of stuff that was partially cold and had to have a team sort through them.
Tomorrow is going to be long and i'll volunteer again, my power is back up at my house, but work is still down. I'm just glad nobody got seriously injured that I know of. That was a fun ride.

Copied this from another board i'm on, so its broken up in 2 different time slots.  This ordeal sucked!
