Post by: spc on January 19, 2010, 07:54:46 PM
Sorry, just had to point out that for the first time in longer than most of our board members have been alive, Ted Kennedy's seat is held by a Republican.

We'll see if the legacy is dead.  Today, it was simply that the voters of Massachusetts preferred Brown to Coakley.  Nothing more or less, IMHO.

Would you say that Reagan's legacy died when Clinton or Obama were elected?  I would not say it means anything other than (like almost every American election) wishy-washy voters unhappy with some part of the status quo voted against it.  It wasn't a vote against universal health care -- MA residents already have that.

IMHO i think it was a vote of spending crazyness. all parties, and all affiliations are guilty of this at soem point in history. BUT back on topic, honestly never thought id see that seat held by anything other than a liberal. and ive nothing against MOST liberals. , some yes, heck ive issues with most politicians in some way shape or form. anyways, may his soul rest in peace

Teddy held that seat since I was in an infant, and JFK before that.  The seat had a Democrat's butt in it by the name of Kennedy for 56 years.

No matter how anyone tries to spin this election, it's as big a political upset and rebuke of current policy as anyone's ever witnessed.  Politically speaking, this was an atomic bomb.  I've been telling some of you that the people don't want the nanny state.  Perhaps you'll listen now.

Apparently she never put in any effort till he had opened a 30 point advantage. That is huge, AKA asleep at the wheel.
BTW I am not in favor of healthcare reform as it sits right now, however I am really really against the status quo. The first thing I would like to see is prices on stuff when you go get any medical stuff done. No BS like we will charge you 1500 bucks, but insurance negotiated amount is 30 bucks if you ahve cigna and 20 if you got aetna and 50 if you have BCBS. In any case in a few years that is going to happen whether insurance refoem passes now or not ... why ... too many people get sticker shock when they see the bills after insurance turns it down and hospitals are getting stiffed in the millions of $$$ ...

BTW I have never had a medical bill go to collection. I call them and refuse to pay it. Or tell them that I am only paying the insurance negotiated amount after my insurance refuses it. Or I tell them to put in a different treatment code and bill my insurance ... BTW they love making "mistakes". You get treatment 5309 say, they would sent it as 5809 which will get refused, they will then try to collect the full $ from you ...

Just call them and fight. They know they dont have much option ...

Cool.

TG it ( IMHO ) was more than just universal healthcare, that, teh budget, who knows what else. time will tell, tbh, I dont know if his legacy is dead per-se, BUT politics in mass has changed. well see how long it lasts. may be short term, may be long term. no one knows yet. too soon to predict

No it hasn't. These were the same morons who elected Mitt Romney, and then hated him. They refuse to learn.
If it was the budget, they certainly wouldn't have voted for the guy who supported the largest increase in
government size and spending in history, would they? Oh, wait, they are that stupid. You can tell them that
terrorists never pulled off a successful mainland attack under Bush, and mention 9/11 in the same sentence.
