Hi!
I guess I never did introduce myself to the group.
To tell you the truth, nothing gained, nothing lost on that!
I live in Pearland, TX and own a 92 GS500E.
Details:
8500 original miles
Lovely Purple w/pink (those crazy early-90s!)
Racetech fork springs
2006 Katana 600 rear shock
Avon bias tires, 120 front, 140 rear
CA bike, rejetted carbs, canister disconnected, 49-state ignition rotor
Weird electrical issues
I use the bike to commute to work 46 miles round-trip to Rosharon, TX on the back roads and love every minute of it.
Phrases I hate:
"It's a great beginner bike."
"It's a great bike for women."
"It's a great starter bike."
Sick and tired of these.
Just because it can't go 130 mph (stock) and it can't keep up with a Hayabusa, then it's considered a "beginner" bike.
Well, It's all about riding not going 130.
Had real good service from Matt at Stubbs Cycle on Telephone Rd. Good guy, didn't treat me any different than a GSXR or 'Busa rider.
Anyway, Would love to hear from any other GS owners in the Houston-area.
Jay
Welcome to the forum.
I am in the Bear Creek area. Ride a 2007 GS500F.
I agree with your comments about "beginner" bike, etc. Since I commute often and routinely ride 250+ mile "day" rides I think think these are wonderful all round bikes.
Post some pics when you can. (Pics or it didn't happen)

Hi,
Sorry that I haven't replied back in a timely fashion.
I have been busy.
Just fixed a problem with my GS tonight.
I found the problem accidentally, that's good, I get to ride to work tomorrow.
I'm just looked-up where the Bear Creek area is.
Do you ride into Houston for work?
I am fortunate, I live in Pearland and go south to work in Rosharon.
I'm sure that there are a million nice places to ride up near you.
Perhaps I can get up there one day to ride.
I'll post some pictures of my GS when I get this posting-thing all figured out.
Good to see your post.
I commute from Barker-Cypress Road to the east side of downtown on the Katy Freeway. Other rides have been to Matagorda, Lake Livingston. Lochart.
To post pictures you have to have them 'hosted' on the internet. A lot of people use Photobucket. I use Tinypics. Once the photo is hosted, you use the photo icon (second row, second form left) ans copy the URL of the photo to where the cursor is between the codes. You can then preview and post.
We'll try a meet & eat when the weather get better.

I'm in Dickinson, but my bike isn't running yet.
I am in Stafford. I ride a 2006 GS500F. New rider so I have not ventured out onto the major highways just yet. Doing a lot of riding on less busy roads for familiarity purposes. I hate the references to this bike being a great beginner/starter bike and a good bike for women. It is a great bike and I do enjoy it and see myself keeping it for lots of years. I do intend to use this for commuting from Stafford to the Medical Center this summer. I will also post a pic later once I actually take some photos. Having a blast riding it though. I do have one issue with my front brake.....when I squeeze it fluid comes from it, not sure if it is a leak or overfill. May be just something loose, the bike had less than 1,000 miles when I got it so I think all fluids were changed and it didn't get tightened properly. The clutch was overtightened and I could not get it go into neutral but I found out how to correct that and not it works like a charm. Anyway....enough babbling.....Happy and safe riding everyone.
In webster myself nice to see some other riders out there ^_^
