Title: Good bike 225cc or less?
Post by: BaltimoreGS on February 14, 2010, 05:43:57 PM
Any recommendations on a decent street legal bike available in the USA that is 225cc or less?  So far I have been considering an '81-82 Honda CM200T Twinstar.  The '81-82 models were 12 volt and had CDI ignitions.  I'd prefer something without points.  Thanks for any input!

That may be the only one there is, small bikes were common in asia, and even there the cm/cb/cd series was the best.
And out of india some new 200 bikes are fitted wiht electronic stuff that let them run over 150 mpg, that could be an option in the future, but for now, the cm 200 may be it.
Cool.

I love small bikes. Someday I want to own a cb125-175, although I could only imagine they have points. Does it need to stop right at 225cc? I used to have a ninja250 a long time ago and that was a fun bike.

Maybe a dual sport? You could find a 125cc dual sport pretty cheap, and if you really wanted you could put some street tires on it to make a little supermoto bike out of it.

It needs to be 225cc or less to compete in the Lake Erie Loop race.  It's 650 miles long so I think a dual sport would be too uncomfortable.  And after my last dual sport ('06 Yamaha XT225 oddly enough) I swore I'd never get another one unless somebody else bought one first.  Dual sports are no fun when you don't have anyone to off road with   ;)

suzuki made a 185 late 70's early 80's not sure if it would be points or not.  why are you scared of a points ignition?

Yeah I don't know if you're gonna avoid the points, I'd just look for a nice old cb. After the race turn it into a little cafe racer, or give it to me and I'll ride it around town happily!

I never did any off roading on my dual sport, except when I'd pass somewhere that they were building a new house, I'd go ride over in the dirt and eventually fall over. Like I said though, if I ever had one again it would get the supermoto treatment and I would just go attack some speed bumps and sidewalk wheelchair cutouts

Thanks for the input guys.  The main thing would be getting an old bike reliable enough to complete the race:  www.lakeerieloop.com

Anybody know anything about a Kawasaki Eliminator 125?

Bah, I hate my censored work internet, how much is that cb125?? Probably not cheap enough to want to drive to harrisburg to pick it up, but still.

Asking $550 for the CB125.  I emailed the guy to see if he still has it, that's an older ad.

If that cb125 was anywhere near me, I'd be posting pics of my wife taking her first ride on it!!!

Are two-strokes allowed?  If so, you need an old DT 200 with street tires on it.  It's almost as fast as our GS's.  They were made from the mid-1980's through the early 90's.  It'll stomp any 4-stroke in that displacement range.  You'll be able to outrun them by almost 20 MPH. :thumb:

I just read the rules... and two-strokes aren't mentioned, meaning they're allowed!  GO GET 'EM!!!

Now I wanna race too.. but I can't buy another bike without getting rid of one!
