I mean really...it doesn't stop laser blasts. It surely doesn't stop light sabers. It doesn't protect them from falls. It won't even protect them from Ewok's with sticks and rocks. Seems like the Empire could have saved a lot of money by not investing in the armor...

The Storm Trooper uniform is designed to De-Personalize them to those who they are controlling/fighting. As a LEO, for example, if you Look like a machine it sends a different aura then if you look like Joe Bloggs from down the road.
