Title: Need a gas tank for 1992 GS500e
Post by: steitsma on February 15, 2010, 01:53:41 PM
Hello,

I just got a 1992 gs500e end of last summer and I am in the process of repainting it.  When I got it the previous owner had to swap the original tank with a used one due to rust and the colors where off.  While sanding the tank down there are pinholes all over the one side.  Does anyone know where I could find a decent replacment?  What other years will fit, I found a few on ebay but they still have rust issues.  Has anyone else fixed this issues with a tank kream liner, if so how has it held up over time?  Thanks for your time!

'89-00 all have the same tank.  I've heard mixed reviews of Kreem and Red Kote liners.  I have one tank with each and have not had problems yet.  I have heard that welding makes it flake off.  There is a guy on here that goes by Buddha who does POR-15 coating, you may want to contact him.

I may have an extra one. (Truth be told I have two) But I'm in the process of repainting the other one and I am debating about selling the one that's currently on my bike. I have not rust detected on it. the only flaw is that it has a minor dent on the right side.
