Here's a good (and long) read on helmet standards that might be interesting to somebody somewhere.

I think Snell M2010 was created to address the previous standard's shortcomings

Correct, the 2010 SNELL standard has been seriously revamped from the 2005 due in part to this article.  I bought one of the Z1R helmets because of this article.  It has been relegated to second string duty because the ventelation is not very good on it.

Yeah, I have seen this article a couple times around here.  It is a good read and points out what a lot of people just take for granted with helmet ratings.

I got a Z1R because of the article also.  The only ventilation issues I have had are with a balaclava in cold weather.  The shield fogs.
