When i reassemble my front end after painting the frame, do i need a special kind of greese for the bearings? can i just slop a bunch of Vasaline on there or there something speacial in the greese that goes into it? what about the type of greese you put into the zirks on your car? is that stuff okay to use?
good question, ive always just used waterproof moly-wheelbearing grease. but I dont know if its technically correct.
i always get the budduh special nascar stuff that he gets from some race shop near his house.....
I prefer KY Jelly to vaseline :thumb:
Valid question that needs an accurate answer. I need to know as well. I was just going to grab some K/Y and cross my fingers. :nono:
I use white lithium grease. ... for lubricating bearings.
I always use bel-ray waterproof grease. You can get it at most motorcycle shops. That's what the motocross suspension shop guys told me to use on all my linkages and steering head bearings, so that's what I do.
Waterproof bearing (may also say chassis) grease. Available cheap near the boat trailers or more expensive at a motorcycle dealer.
If you want to use Vaseline, KY, Brylcreem, go right ahead - they are your bearings, you can ruin them without causing anyone else a problem.
Saving my K/Y DOD, thank you very much, lol.
Almost any decent wheel bearing grease will do the job. The lubricant manufacturers can probably cite numerous tests citing why one (usually theirs) is the best, but as a practical matter; anything you pick up at Mao Mart or your local auto parts store will do the job. I still have more than half of the tub I bought nearly 30 years ago.

so then to answer my question simply, vaseline will eventually ruin the bearings. I didnt know, hence my post asking, but thanks for being a d*ck about it. It really helped :D
