Title: I have a Frame without a Title
Post by: MajorMalphunction on February 25, 2010, 10:56:17 AM
I recently bought a frame from a guy who claims he misplaced the title. Reason of this purchase is because I needed a lot of parts from the thing and decided to buy everything for a pretty reasonable price. I have yet to hear back from him but I was wondering if anyone wants it or know the process about how to get a new title from the DMV in California. Thanks.

Try calling the police with the VIN to see if it's stolen. If it is you're not gonna be able to do anything with it. That "I misplaced the title" is the biggest red flag you can get. If they're an honest seller they'll buy a new title before they try to sell it. That's why I did with mine. It only took a couple weeks to come, and now that I decided to keep the bike I'll actually have the title to go with it.

If you have a bill of sale from him...depending on your state regulations, you should be able to have your local cops run a VIN check just like the above poster stated, as long as its clean they will sign off on a form, you should be able to take that and the bill of sale to DMV and get a title
